I'm at 30k and wondering whether it's time to think about new pads. I suppose I could pull a wheel and check how much meat is left, but I would still like to compare my CRD to others.

50k miles (mostly hiway-little traffic). I looked at pads at last tire rotation approx 500 miles prior to today. Front pads are down to about 40% +/- rears seem about 75%.

average implies that you've changed them multiple times - at 40,000 mi - I'm not even to the 1st change - still have lots of pad left.

Greatly depends on driving patterns. I'd start checking them after 25k. Mine lasted 50k and even had probably another 5k left if you wanted to push it.

98,000 kms and still going strong. I haven't checked the pads but so far so good. 98 000 kilometers = 60 894.3768 mile

I am amazed that I am not closer to pad replacement at 25,000 miles. With all the autobahn driving and couple of laps at the track and one round on the Nuerburgring oh and towing the race car through the mountains. Very please with the life of the pads. When it does happen though, Brembo parts will be on order.

I expect to put at least 70-80k on mine before they get replaced (assuming I still have it).

It ain't how many miles you go, it's how many stops you make, and how you make them.

I've known folks who get an average 8,000-10,000 miles on a set of brakes. They do it by resting their left foot on the brake pedal at all times. Their brake lights NEVER go off.

My wife and I generally go 50,000-75,000 miles on a set of brakes. Worst case was rear brakes on a Jetta that went only 48,000 miles. Musta been a defective set o' pads, as their replacement is now over 75,000 and still with us.

I've 37,000 miles on my CRD at this point, and can't imagine needing pads yet.

VW used a very soft pad for rear brakes for a while, up to early 2002 models, I believe, and I think also tweaked the brake bias at the same time. I have a late '02 wagon and just replaced my first set of rear pads at 104K. I could have gone even farther, but the right rear pads bound up in the caliper due to corrosion and were dragging a bit, which wore them down a bit faster than the left side.

Fronts still look new, and will probably go to 200K.

Need to look at the pads on the CRD - we're at about 40K. Wife drives like Mario Andretti most of the time, although the tires are still OEM and holding up OK, too, so it can't be THAT bad....

Chris
