I just recently aquired a used white 2005 Liberty CRD with 20,000 miles and have been lerking on the boards ever since. The other day I was looking at the FAQ section and saw a picture of a CRD engine and I immediately noticed a difference between mine and the pictures. The intercooler piping that runs from the turbo to the upper intercooler inlet on my CRD was put on wrong. Upon further investigation it seems that the tube was rubbing up on the hood and was squished between what seems to be an a/c line and the hood. I immediately popped off the intercooler piping and routed it the correct way. The CRD runs so much better now. It spools faster and obviously has more power. I noticed an AMAZING amount of oil on the inside of the intercooler pipe. There was so much oil it was running dripping all over the place when I pulled off the piping. All that oil in the intercooler is going to mess up it's efficiency and eventually break it down. Not good!

Anyways.. I think my CRD must have been worked on at a dealer or something.. and they were careless and installed the intercooler pipe on wrong. If you are getting a lack of performance- this would be a thing to check. I can see how it can be put on the wrong way.. as it's quicker to install this way.

This is how the intercooler on the left-side of the picture is supposed to run. Mine was running up and over the silver a/c lines and was crushed and rubbing on the hood. (I stole this picture from the FAQ section.. hope the owner doesn't mind)

Good for you. Welcome to the enlightened who have realized that rarely does the dealer do anything right.

If you want to keep the oil out of your air system, check out the FAQ's and consider a 1) Provent ($$$) or an Elephant Hose Mod (0$).

At 40,000 miles my CAC hoses are cleaning up. The turbo side hose has only a very light coating of oil and the intercooler outlet hose is now tacky and almost dry. My engine oil is cleaning up too. The first oil change the oil that came out of the crankcase was like walnut stain – very difficult to get off my hands even with hand cleaner. At the last oil change the oil was still black but easily wiped off my hands and garage floor with a shop rag. I expect the engine oil to clean up even more over time.

When I take my tractor in to the dealer for axel seals I would also like to get the new oilproof cac hose. How did those who have gotten the new hoses get the dealer to replace them?

Hello, I am new to the group. I have an 05 Liberty crd. Last night my turbo started making a "wind" sound by drivers side. I've done enough research to suspect I need to check intercooler hoses for cracks and wear. I'm just having a hard time locating the hoses, and a hard time finding them on Sam's NOOB guide. Please fergive me I'm a mountain boy in Montana and hoping this little CRD can get us through some of the crazy seasons we have here. Going on year #2 with the jeep and think it's great so far!
