Mike: Go for it! To me it sounds like the Bean Counters on Steroids are running DC at this time. This is a natural cyclical political event that goes on in all big companies. Bean Counter on Steroids attitude will be in effect until the Marketing People convince the Board of Directors that the Bean Counters are Run A Muck.and costing sales. With competition from Korea and China and other costs such as providing welfare for still young retired (some retired as young as 48 years old) UAW members, the Bean Counters have the upper hand at this time. It is hard to believe, but the Marketing and Engineering people want the Bean Counters to get some Force Equals Mass Times Acceleration Therapy through their nose bridge area. You and your Lawyer will fire the shot to do so and we all hope it is a direct hit. When your Lawyer gets involved there are four potential outcomes of action that the DC Lawyer will follow: 1) DC offers a settlement that covers most or all of the charges and you pay your Lawyer, If you can legally do so, ask if you can pay by the hour or on contingency depending upon the outcome of the case. That way you don't end up paying $2,000 for your Lawyer to call his Fraternity Buddy who reps DC and talk about beer and settle the case in 1 hour over the phone. 2) DC Lawyer files every JACK OFF court procedure, motion and sites unrelated cases such as botched adoption cases to drag things out (Gateway Computer tactic). 3) DC finds some fine print that will require the case to go to Arbitration (another Gateway Computer tactic). 4) You go to Court and the DC Lawyer and Your Lawyer make a lot of Money weather you win or loose.

To solve the mechanical flaw with the fuel system design, a lift pump with a check valve air bleed would solve the problem permanently. This is no new idea that I or other L.O.S.T members have cooked up, just what diesel fuel injection companies like Bosch, CAV, and others have been doing for many years to solve the air problems. F$%#ing Bean Counters are the only reason it was not done on our Liberty CRDs. Bosch would have been happy to supply or work with a lift pump had DC specified it, the DC Bean Counters are the ones who wanted the Engineering Department to think they did not need it.

Regards,

Steve :!:

I received a final decision from DC yesterday afternoon; ALL of the work and associated parts failures are due to the CAT filter. I am now the proud owner of a $6000 more expensive Jeep Liberty CRD!

Now that I have the decision I will be sending my filter head to Mr. Steven Chan of the NHTSA and my pump to Mr. Robin Hood for failure analysis. Does anyone know if an ecu can be diagnosed out of the vehicle?

On the bright side, it runs better than it ever has! I just pulled my 4000+ pound trailer over the Rockies (about 800km) with no troubles.

Did they give you a better explanation than that? Did they show you their proof?

Nope...now it is time for the legal experts to play ball. No explanation other than it is denied coverage due to the CAT filter. No proof no nothing.

Your experience will certainly impact my decision to purchase another DC, C or Jeep product.

Even if the CAT filter caused an air leak that damaged the high pressure pump, none of the electronic components can be damaged by a mechanical component failure. Even if the CAT filter jacked up the power output of the engine to the point where the axles twisted off, there is no way this can damage the electronic components. Your Lawyer should have this one figured out in a nanosecond and be quite able to convince a JURY or JUDGE or ARBITRATOR that the clowns from DC are nuts. . I wonder what BRAND of ROPE they are smoking?

Wow, that's number 2. My CAT is staying in the box. The problem is that those switching to Racor will have the same finger pointed at them. The only solution is to push for a new filter head through a recall.

You had multiple problems, were there ever noticable air leaks on the filter head before the Cat?

Why would the ECU fry as a result of filter issues?

The only way that could happen is if the Racor was on when it went to the dealer.

Drharv: I have the argument that blows away the fuel heater failure frying the ECU scam being run by DC. The ECU activates a relay that supplies power to the fuel heater with a 20Amp fuse in the circuit. If the fuel heater failed, the fuse would blow, not the ECU! There is a greater chance of Northwest Airlines turning a profit and Southwest Airlines, West Jet, and Ryan Air all losing money, than having a bad fuel heater fry an ECU.
Tell this to your Lawyer and have your EE friend verify what I report before you go to Court.

Well I sent an e-mail to DC to ask why my jeep is still in shop after 2 months. ( simple question ) they sent me a reply, get this, service rep said it was hard finding the right codes
because of all the modifications I`ve done.
Let`s see

1 BF Goodrich tires
2 Trailer hitch and wireing
3 Sticker on back glass that says TURBO DIESEL
4 Gauge on air box to check filter
5 Wix oil filter
6 Wix air filtr
7 Fumoto oil drain
8 Flo master muff

9 Cat II filter ( they replaced that with an OEM now ,completly new filter head)
10 B-20

If I can think of any more I will post WTF.............

That's exactly why I'm staying away from any mod that can't be totally undone in a few second even though I know my CR3 is suffering because of air
They are using any excuse to pass the blame onto us CRD owners

Ask if you can get that in writing, if they want to know why tell them its for your lawyer.
