That place is 12 minutes from my house... Do I just mention LOST?

Also, my truck has the TracLoc dif... Would it really be worth it to replace that LSD with another LSD? If one wheel is in the air and I apply the e-brake like you said to do with the Detroit, would I get the same result?

Thanks,
Bill

I have the Powertrax Extreme Locker had it put in by Jeff Daniels Jeep Customizing in Harleysville, Pa. http://www.jeffdanielsjeeps.com/#top I had a trac-loc also and that takes a special Powertrax for that rear. Makes a big difference off-road! Joe

The shop rate in NoVa is about $99/hr.

dude they were taking you behind the wood shed for sure
the shop that I have used did it in <4 hours with the copper fitting ready for the hose on top the diff

3.5 hours at $65 $227.50 + oil it was right at $250
$800 @ $65 an hour = 12+ hours for a locker install

The place that does my work said 8 hours to do an ARB in the front of the KJ including setting up new gears

even still that is high
you did an ARB in your KJ and had never done one befor if you did it every day would it take you 8 hours?
I know that I pulled my ARB out of the front of my TJ replaced the lollipop and reinstalled wheels off to wheels back on in <4 hours
now granted it was already shimed and set but still this was my first try and I also replaced the break pads so that took like and extra 20 min :D

My third ARB Air Locker installation (TJ D44 rear) took a little over eight hours. It included drilling out the ring gear bolt holes, setting the backlash, and installing the compressor/wiring/tubing. I'm about 50% slower than the average modder. Don't ask how long a Liberty D30a regear and locker install takes

A lunch box locker replaces the stock differential components within the carrier, while a typical locker replaces the entire carrier. A lunch box locker can be installed without adjusting carrier bearing preload and backlash. It also eliminates the need for new ring gear bolts, a dial indicator, housing spreader, and bearing puller. It's essentially an easier to install but slightly weaker and non-selectable locker.

No they ain't gonna do it that cheap, especially if you have more than about 15K miles. They are gonna wanna install a "Kit" with it, and they should if you have more than break-in miles. There are a bunch of things they can "Milk" you for, I GARonTEE. I guess it all depends on how much wear your rear axle has, how much you know about the job, How much they know that you don't know...how honest they are.

The "Lunch-Box"...Look at how many of us are against that. I would go with other than Powercraps no-slip. Mine broke and that should NEVER happen EVER EVER EVER!!

Remember you said this: "My step father is a mechanic but he refuses to touch any differential unless he has to."

Ask him why, then ask him to be the one to deal with the other mechanics sosh ya don't git robbed.
