i am trying to decide on the ORU Defender roof rack http://www.offroadunlimited.com/ProductCart/PC/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=307&idproduct=4575 (this is tjkj2002's with the defender on...http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=215731&highlight=#215731) , or the Surco Safari roof rackhttp://www.autoanything.com/roof-racks/60A1380A0A0A2542602.aspx. Money is not an option, b/c i have a lot of "wreck" money now so i would like anyone's opinions...!!! Thanks!

Black Widow rack. Its relatively cheap, is well made, and holds a lot.

I personally don't like the look of the surco one :D

Off Road Unlimited's is the way I will go soon. I like their light cage for their baskets. Really strong looking, protected from tree branches.

Also mounts to the existing front to back side rails no need for crossbars and that build up look to having so many layers under it.

do you think it would be possible to bolt it right up to the stock holes... maybe weld on some support brackets and have them welded to the defender?

Rip,

The big question is WHY?

Why would you go to the trouble and potential harm to the existing rack IF you didn't have to?

this was designed by a fellow LOST member a while ago. I would like something like this to be made for my KJ.

I like the look of pixelzn's custom basket, but if such a beast doesn't exist, I'm a fan of the Black Widow. That's what I have.

the 4x4x4" is the one i will get. i measured for it on my roof and it will fit perfectly and not over hang my sun roof too much. that is the one the recomend for libbys.

I have the Coleman rack. Holds 110 lbs, weighs 35 lbs, that's the roof rails limit. I also like a rack that rides inside my roof rails so that the side mounted equipment, etc. isn't smacking someone all the time, or hanging up.

if i get the 4x4x4 do you think that i will have enough room to have some pieces of steel welded to the defender to bolt up to the stock bolts on the roof? i do not have my stock renegade roof rails, but i did make some money so i could buy my rack.
