How hard would it be to install an Magnaflow or Gibson exhaust on a 2004 Liberty Sport 4x4? From what it look like underneath the car, its all bolts and hangers, anybody know if its welded at some point?

Thanks

From the Cat on back is all one piece. I took mine to a muffler shop to have the muffler cut off and a Magnaflow welded in. It only cost me $100 for the muffler and labor.

Thanks for the response. Did you notice much of a difference in power/torque with the Magnaflow Muffler? Do you like the sound of the Magnaflow?

Thanks again for the response!!

Mostly sound and a little power. A cat back would be best with mandrel bends, but it costs a bit more...

Its not one piece from the cat-back. It is from the muffler back though. I personally believe its a waste of money to buy a cat back system. Just a muffler will do it.

Thanks for the reply!! You did that yourself right? What size pipe is that, like outer diameter?

Thanks

Yup, I did it myself. The extra pipe is 2.5in Inside on one end and 2.5in outside on the other. I picked it up at advance auto for close to nothing. I was thinking about getting it welded in and taking those clamps off.. I dont like how they look.

Thanks, sounds like I have a project to do here pretty soon. Looked on Kragen, 3 2.5" clamps, and 2 feet of 2.5" Exhaust piping is $12 with taxes, add $75 muffler, can't beat that!!

Thanks for the help, see ya on MOL!!

Did you get more clearence from the Cat, as the standard muffler sit's low & takes a good nock. I'd like to change mine or get a muffler shop to re mount mine higher (if you can do that :?: )

took me about 45 min,s to install my magnaflow cat back including the time to open the box and stare at the blingness  of the stainless steel , just lube up the hangers and it will slip right on ,,, oh and the 3 1/2" tip on the magnaflow is sweet, sound is great even my wife is now guilty of stomping on the go pedal just to hear it talk

oh and CDKJ it sits a little higher, and is as tough as it took hits on a Hard trip at camp coffs and has only a few scratches where i bent some of the underbody on the same trip

I just used a sawzall. I had it off in a matter of minutes.

The only problem I had was on the output of the muffler. It starts to turn up almost immediately after the stock muffler so it made a small gap coming out of the flowmaster. Thats another reason I want to get it welded.

Image

I put some water around it as you can see in the pic and it didnt blow it out, so I guess there isnt a leak. :?

Thanks hyedipin, I think I'll try to find someone local to cut the old muffler off and weld the new one it. I'm thinking of going with the Flowmaster Super 40, any bad things to know about that one?

Thanks again for all the help!!

Where hyedipin left the flange on you can have them cut that out also and get rid of it, unless someday you want to try and take it apart, we cut mine out and no problems, just a suggestion

If you stand around and away from your KJ, you can't see the clamps. Why worry about it? Save any money for other mods or cleaning and painting supplies.
