Anyone Running Michelins?

Sam's is handy for me because my favorite food group is Red Bull and they sell it by the case. :lol:

I really wanted Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors in 245/70R16 but no one knows when they can get them in (out of stock/special order...). My OEM's are bald and I have a state inspection due so I may have to make a "sacrifice" and go with Michelins or something else. I am 95% highway but I want something that'll get me up the hill if it snows in hunting season. I put Michelin LTX on the CRD from Sams. They were a special order and it took about a week to get . I have about 35k on the tires and they have about 60% of the tread left. I get them rotated/balanced at Sams for free on a 7,000 mi schedule. The Sam's price was better than almost all locally and when you throw in the free rotation/balance it works out much cheaper. The LTXs are great in the snow and have been very sturdy "off road". I have been on dirt trails with friends who have had flats from hard rock punctures, but (so far) the Michelins have survived.

Service means a lot to me so I went with a regional tire store that is a pretty large dealer of Toyos and has wonderful including stores most everywhere I drive in the West, road hazzard and free rotation and flat repair.

Now this will seem off topic but bear with me a while. :lol:

I got my JD tractor stuck in my creek Saturday...it is still there. :oops:

Part of trying to get it out was hooking a chain to the tow hooks of my '89 Chevy Scottsdale, putting it into 4 wheel low and giving it a tug. That didn't work but I took a gander at the AT's that have been on it for 60K plus miles and 15 years and have gotten me through a lot of snow and mud. They are probably at 40% and they are Toyo's. If I keep the P/U they may rot off before they wear out. That realization made me happy that I chose the Toyo's

Toyo Open Country M/T s are just too much of a tread for highway driving.

How about
Yokohama Geolander ATS or
Pirelli SCORPION A/T
or Cooper Discoverer ATR

Those were my next choices on my 17"s following Fortera Silent Armors and Fortera Triple Treads..

I am like CRuD Bucket, almost all the time highway, but with messy winters and having to go to work by driving through unplowed streets. That is only maybe %5 of the whole season, but want something to tackle that without problem, and not compensate from highway high-speed traction and cornering.

I saw those Coopers yesterday in a shop and they looked pretty nice---looked like a good rain tire.

I have been tire shopping for the last 7-8 months.. call me crazy, but I cannot make up my mind.
I just have to pick one and go with it already!!!!

I'm in the same boat and I'm reluctant to mail order. Got a price from a local tire shop for the Cooper Discoverer ATR's at $576.00 out the door price---mount, balance, tax, stems...

I am not going to do mail order tires either. I prefer to buy it local and get it mounted at the same spot. It's just me..
Local Mavis has all of the above choices, I just need to make up my mind..
The problem is most of those do not have enough reviews over at tirerack.com...

I routinely drive on gravel and that was the downfall of the OEM's with all the flats. The Toyos have affected my mileage but they are quieter and handle nicely.

I've been pondering over new tires for a couple of months now and finally got some this past weekend. I went with the Firestone Destination AT in a 245/70/16. They seemed to get favorable reviews here on the site and on tirerack.com. Set of four cost me $450 with the road hazard/lifetime rotation/balance. I was scared to get AT tires since I like a more quiet ride (mostly highway driving to and from work) and these really are not any more noisy than the all season goodyears that were on the Jeep before.

I will tell you, though, that the handling of the Jeep is MUCH improved over the crappy goodyears that came on it. I was shocked how much better the handling is. You would think that with taller tread, you would sway a bit. Not so....they seem very sticky. I did upsize a bit, though, so I guess there is more tire surface touching the road now and that helps.

Also popular here on the site are General Grabber AT2 (I couldn't find anyone who carried them in stock around here...) and Bridgestone Dueller ATs. The Bridgestones seemed to run around $50 more per tire about everywhere I checked here and that's the main reason I didn't get them.

Good luck. Take the plunge and get tires....you won't be sorry. I personally recommend the Firestone Destination AT.

You guys with your 16s are very lucky. I am running 17s and there are only about 3-5 decent choices I could come up with so far...

In reality, you can't make a bad choice on a replacement tire. The OEM STs are so terrible that just about anything will be better.

You may be right with the OEM STs. I think Wrangler HPs are somewhat better than those.. However they dance on the rain,too..

Take the plunge...I knw that Hercules has many 17" choices...I am happier with mine everytime I drive. It has been raining in San Antonio 6 out 7 days this summer and these Terra Trac ATs just plain WORK.

I am also running Michelin LTX's and they are wering like iron. Whoever owned the Libby before I did put them on there because I guess they couldn't take the craptacular ST's. The only thing I wish they had was a little beefier tread, that's something I am going to look for on my next tire. Other than that...couldn't be more pleased!

Hi! I put Cross Trail SUV's on my XJ and they are aweful in the rain...never again!
I have bridgestone REVO's on the KJ. love them.
