Link to an editorial on The Truth About Cars regarding Jeep by Brad Kozak.

For the Love of Jeep

I think Brad did a good job of summing things up.

He makes some pretty good points. Heres something I believe about the Jeep brand and its ruggedness:

Jeep always has to be rugged, simple, durable, etc. compared to everyone else. To stay competative, Jeep MUST change with the times, but still stay more off road then everyone else. The kj is a good example: They changed to IFS and some other softer components from the cherokee. But, its still the abosolute most rugged in its class! Compare to other vehicles of the same size like rav-4, crv, etc. No comparison, Liberty takes the cake. And it beats them out enough that now the KJ gets placed in reviews next to FJs and H3s. Not even in the same class. They should technically be reviewed with the Wrangler Rubicon as they are those manufacturers most hardcore off-roaders.

Another case is the Commander. Compare it to other 7 passenger vehicles and it will take terrain better then them. Whats the competition there? Chevy Tahoe? ppppsshhhh...

So, I guess my point is... Jeep is sweet... :D

Ive seen stock tahoes offroad and they did better than I thought they would.

They were at Livingston Jerbacher! I was down there one weekend by myself driving around and some forest rangers were driving them around. They were on a part of the trail youve never been on and it wasnt as bad as the stuff we take, but I was still amazed.
