Knowing Chrysler the diesel will only be offered in some configuration that nobody wants, so Chrysler won't have to be embarrassed about having to make more than they originally planned. Probably a PT cruiser or Caliber (no Jeep) with $15,000 in optional equipment included.

Saw at least half dozen commercials this weekend for Jeep and Chrysler touting the new LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY!!

This is a big step forward, exactly the same thing Hyundai did to improve thier quality and market share. We will see if they can stick with it long enough to save the company.

I guess I bought mine at a good time as there was an additional 2 years on the warranty in November '05 for a month as part of the incentive.

I asked at a dealership about the new warranty, and apparantly you can purchase it for any Chrylser vehicle going back to 05. Unfortunatly the catch was its 'any but the CRD'. Highly dissapointing.

Before I bought my CRD, I did a lot of research. A lot. And a lot of it was focused on towing. Never in any of those articles did I ever read any reviewer complaining about the 5k towing capacity.

Diesel clatter? Yes. Lack of interior storage/cubbies? Yes. In town mpg vs. the hybrid Escape? Yes. Imploding transmissions? Yes. But never the fact that it could "only" tow as much as a gasser Liberty (or V6 4Runner, Xterra, V6 Explorer, etc...) in a smaller wheelbase vehicle that got 5-8 mpg more on the highway.

Why do I think that line is some made-up BS to make them sound less goofy for canceling the model?

I read a review on the CRD in a truck magazine before I purchased and they laughed at the manufactures tow capacity rating, saying that the CRD could tow a much heavier load but that safety issues demanded that they limit it to 5K. I think if you compare what a few here have towed with the gasser guys you will see that the gassers are struggling at 5K and the CRD's are tooling along at 6K and above without issues. Yup, so much hot air.

From the Jeep page in Europe.

Maximum towing capacity (braked trailor) 3360 kg 3360*2.2=7392 lbs.

The new "Lifetime Warranty" is just a marketing gimmic for the next 60 days. Trying to clear the inventory to start a little fresher...

No matter what they called the Liberty CRD...a beta test...a womans SUV...it is one of the best "Bang for the Buck" "One of a Kind" vehicle out there. Now will somebody get me off this "Wheel" and give me a "Carrot"?

You know what always bothers me in these reviews? When talking mileage, they compare the 6 cyl CRD to the 6 cyl Gas engine. But when talking torquy strength, they compare the CRD to the V-8 or Hemis.

Truly, they should compare the CRD's to the V-8's in all catagories. Then you see REAL mileage differences, the comparable towing etc. and we should take our licks on horsepower.

Idiots.

The towing problem with the CRD has nothing to do with the engine but the short W/B at freeway speed would have sway problems with larger(er) high wall TT's. The 5000 lb rating limits the TT size to something managable for this size W/B.

They can "beta test" on me all they want. I chuckle at 90% of people who drive their large trucks and SUVs that don't even own a trailer of any sort, or tow around a small load that my betta'Libby could pull all day with WAY better mpg.

As far as diesel vehicles in the united states, I wish it would happen. It will take many many years, kinda like how we r finally catching on that round abouts are better than stop lights.

We will continue to consume ridiculous amounts of gas, metric units are the devil, and round abouts don't work.

I would be hard pressed to do it, I am not a big fan of the compass at all, patriot though.......

As a daily commuter or grocery getter I would. Or a 300 wagon with a 3.0CRD?

I would still have preferred a patriot skin over the compass skin.

300 wagon the 3L CRD in AWD would be an acceptible vehicle............I had a 1998 E300 turbo diesel......great car....but it was just a car, not a station wagon, and it was 2WD.

If it had been a station wagon.......I would still have it, if it had been 4wd, I would probably still have it. 4 door sedans are useless to me.

I got rid of my CRD just about a year ago when I started bumping into the end of the 80k extended warranty. It matters little to me whether we were a "test case" for marketing or mechanics. Chrysler screwed me (and all CRD owners) due to lousy service, frequent repairs, and ridiculous prices for scarce parts. Although I am a big fan of diesels, I would not get another Chrysler product at gun point. The only way I can make them "pay" is by not paying them. I am done with Chrysler, period. When you produce a vehicle which can't be trusted by its owners, charge crazy prices for parts, and don't bother to even make an effort to train dealer mechanics you can't expect any owner loyalty. In fact, you should expect owner disgust!
