Where did you get it done and how much did it cost?

It was about $1350.00

WOW  you got hosed on that deal, new ring and pinion=$180-$200 for the 8.25(Yukon gears),master install kit=$80-$120,so you paid a $1000 for labor? Again,WOW,all the places I've seen only charge about $250-$350 for gear install, heck even installing a ARB only cost like $50-$100 more cause they have to drill and tap the housing.

Actually it was 1042.00. There was some tune up and brake stuff on that bill also.

labor was 508.00 the rest was parts

159.00 ring and pinion

58 -20-9 bucks each for the rest of the bearings, seals and lube

I think that they had to pull the entire axle from the Jeep to press in the pinion bearings, it's not just a simple unscrew and pop in.

Our shop gets about 300.00 to regear, and about 300.00 for all parts. So for at or just under 700.00 you can have a remaned diff. with your choice of gear ratio. If we could get anything like 1350.00 we would probably just do diffs.I'm thinking that Jasper sells this type for around 1200.00 plus core, but it's a complete hub to hub and the only parts they reuse are the housing and carrier caps and bolts, everything else is brand new .
I'm with the others in thinking that unless you drove at high speeds for more than a day or two,you probably have more bearing noise than anything. On water getting in the diff. you have to remember that the axle and pinion seals are designed to keep the lube from pushing out and don't do a great job on keeping water from being pushed in.

But it always looks like fun going into the water, its the next day when the noises start that you look in the rear view at your self and say DUMB A** I mean I have never driven in any water at all.... sure I havent
But I would just find a good shop and have it rebuilt, Rons shop can maybe get you in a couple of days

Thanks everyone... The only reason I probably won't get it regeared is because then i'll have to regear the front too... i'm a college student here I can't afford to do that :-P

OK. Not sure how it will effect it since you have your axle to swap the shafts out of, but the one I have is drums.

Any of the experts want to chime in on whether this will effect him or not?

Wont matter, just extra work. He'll just have to pull the axles to swap the disk brake backing plates to the "new" rear axle housing.
