You could ask Marty if you could be the Director of R&D (research and destruction).

Would be cool, but not my area of expertise. I've welded up some premade cages in TJ's before, and would not want to try that in a KJ.:D

The KJ, and most unibodies like the XJ and ZJ hold up pretty well on their own to a rollover. What has impressed me the most is the effectiveness of a good roof rack in the event of a roll over. A buddy of my rolled his XJ 2.5 times down a hill, going over a downed tree sending it airborn in the roll, and all though it was totalled, he had a large roof rack that crumpled and absorbed and lot of the impact on the roof. So, one of my new projects in the near future is a roof rack that is a complete replacement for the factory rails. I made a simple rack for Ted's KJ (USAFCOP), and made some replacement rails for a local KJ, and they are solid. Get's rid of those weak plastic mounts. I think you guys will like the roof rack I have in mind. Not cheap, but compared to a good basket rack that mounts to weak stock rails, it equals out pretty good.

Since you have made some replacement rails already ...is there a chance you would make some more? Just asking you never know until you ask

Catching up on current orders and front bumpers first, then the roof rack. I a couple other neat little products to work on after that, and those will be seen in Moab Safari 08.

Tom, I will definately be making some more, especially since the last set I did turned out so well. Most time consuming part will be building the jig for it, which I will do on the next set I build. Right now I have to build them right on the KJ until the jig is built. The stock Renegade rails on the 05+ KJ's I guess are only rated at 65lbs. Haven't tested my rails yet, but when I was done installing them the guy put his basket rack and atleast 200 lbs of gear on them and they didn't flinch.

How about the mounts themselves? I've already got a basket, but would love to replace the stock rails and crossbars with new mounts/frame that I could bolt my basket too and get it lower (1 to 2 inches) on the roof.

I saw one example in the fabrication forum that used pins on each leg of the rack so you could easily remove the cross bar/rail and basket, making car wash day much easier, It would also be nice to have multiple cross bars so I could preconfigured one for my bike rack, kayak rack, canoe rack, basket etc, all using the same mounts bolted in place of the stock rails.

Here's the low profile rack I built for Ted's jeep:

Next weekend I'll get pictures of the rails I did for an 05 Renegade that he bolted his Defender basket to. The setup I have designed up completely replaces the factory rails, so they bolt directly to the roof.

Marty, I hate you and love you at the same time :P That 's the coolest looking roofrack I have seen. If you build more like that for the +05KJs I will be sending you my money. Thanx for what you are doing for the KJ crowd. And congrats Troy on your new job.

RL/Marty,
I guess I just need to set up an account with you and deposit 3/400 a month and let you send me all the great stuff coming out! Do you just want me to send it directly to your checking account?

Any idea on the ETA for my sliders, yet? PM me on here or call so I can get the shipping squared away.

All I can say is that IF I had the money I would order the following from you.

Sliders
front bumper
rear bumper with tire carrier
roof rack

and who knows what else.

The big question, though, is do you have any pics, yet, of the new front bumpers? :D

I like that rack. It look it goes into the garage without having to be removed (as long as it is empty). That is a huge plus as I don't want to buy a rack and then have to take it off and put it back on all the time.

Here are some of the roof racks I have seen on LOST that I like, but they are all made in Africa. Everything besides Rock Lizard or All J is Africa or Oz .

Lizard, you should have a second tire carrier design so that the tire is as left as possible and have another arm on the right side to carry at least two gerry cans of gas.
