Attn European Owners - Rear Fog Light

For the KJ Cherokee owners over in Europe how did Chrysler integrate the rear fog light into the light assembly and how is it turned on? Pictures of the light and switch would be great if anyone has them.

on your standard light stalk there is a setting, 1 click forward Parking lights, 2 clicks forward main head lamps, 3 clicks forward rear fogs, 1 click out front fogs

What are these back fogs for. Why do you guys have them and we dont have them?

Three things I miss about European driving:

Rear fogs
Side indicators
No stupid red indicators.

One thing I don't miss:

Traffic.

Cool, thanks for the info. As for the light itself, where is the actual bulb/lamp in the rear? Is it just tacked on or in the stock cluster.

As for what are rear fogs, some north american mercedes, audis and jaguars have them. They are typically one light on the driver side that is about as bright as when the brake light is on. The light helps to pick out the car in front of you during heavy rain, fog, snow, plague, locust swarms... you get the idea.

Both sides rear cluster bottom light

from the top

red tail light/stop light
amber indicator
white reverse lamp
red rear fog

It makes a huge difference. I'm amazed that given the diverse and extreme weather across this continent that rear fogs aren't standard requirements here. Plus there must be cost savings to be made if they standardised these sort of things across all markets.

the sad part is that you CANNOT order them from an American Jeep dealer. If you can and ask with the correct part number in hand, they can't order it because there is a "LOCK" on the product. It really sucks.

Wait a minute, how is the "red rear fog" any different from the normal red taillight? That's what I use to see the cars in front of me. Is it just because the light is lower that it's called a rear fog? I would think that the higher light would be more useful and easier to see.

It's much brighter. As bright as brake lights, not tail lights.

The one down side is people that leave them on when it's not required. They are so bright it becomes annoying following them.

And that's probably why we don't get them. Don't know how to use blinkers, passing lane, mirrors, shoot even the steering wheel so why give the average american driver something usefull?

I installed one in the factory position in my Passat and bought the european light switch to control it. I feel much more confident driving through heavy down pours that I am not going to get creamed by a semi. I also appreciate it when I come across the odd driver in the states that is using theirs (properly) as well.

I will post a review of the installation and what is required when I am done if anyone is interested.
