 Post subject: engine warranty

I have a 2006 crd with about 62000 miles on it. The injection pump died and there saying these engines do not have a 5yr/100000 warranty is this true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

During 2005 CRD's came with 7/70. Sometime during the 2006 model year they dropped it. If you have the 7/70 you should have some documentation. Check your owners manual and all the paperwork that came with your CRD

Read your warranty information well.....some manuals read like there is an additional 3/36 on the engine. If your manual says that I would try to get them to enforce it. Dont lose that manual though...the replacements say that.

Actually there was an announcement that all D/C diesel engines were warranted for 100K but I would not assume that this warranty applies to the fuel delivery system.

I think the 5 year/100,000 mile diesel warranty was intended to mean Cummins engines in the dodge trucks only.

06 models have 3 years/36k miles. As mentioned some manules read differently but DC has denied it. You could have gotten a DC extended warranty, I did, that covers about any period you wanted to pay for.

With all the threads about air in the fuel I suspect there's going to a rash of pumps going bad :shock:

Tell us more about your pump problem :D

My warranty says as per page 9 of the warranty booklet, the diesel warranty begins at the end of the 3/36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which ever occurs first. It stated in the begining of the warranty booklet that you get an additional 3/36000 mi warranty on the diesel engine. Hope that helps and if your warranty booklet reads the same, take it to a different dealer that is not trying to screw you out of about $6K replacing the pump. :)

OK..... here we go again. This is an official press release by DC that was published. Read down in it and you will see that DC extended all '06 diesels to 5 yr/100K miles and this article was Jeep Liberty CRD specific. Not for the Dodge pickup line.

Los Angeles, Jun 07, 2005-Launch of the 2005 Jeep® Liberty CRD, the first diesel-powered mid-size SUV in the U.S. market, has been met with strong customer response, with vehicles moving quickly out of dealer showrooms and into the hands of new owners.

At the end of May more than 6,000 units had been shipped to dealers, and 3,000 of those sold. Vehicles are sitting on the dealer lots an average of 23 days, about one-third the typical time.

"The 2005 Jeep Liberty diesel has gotten off to a strong start, demonstrating that there is a latent interest in modern, clean-running diesels — an interest that we believe can be nurtured and expanded," said Jeff Bell, Vice President – Chrysler & Jeep.


Bell addressed the Motor Press Guild in Los Angeles on the challenges and opportunities of selling diesel passenger vehicles in the U.S. market.


Bell said that many Americans think of diesel as smelly, smoky, loud and dirty, an image built in part on memory of 1970s diesel technology. "The major obstacle to increasing the sales of diesel-powered passenger vehicles in the U.S. is the notion that diesel is an old, inefficient technology," Bell said.


DaimlerChrysler launched the Jeep Liberty CRD, along with the Mercedes-Benz E 320 cdi diesel luxury sedan, to test the U.S. consumer response to diesel and to change the image of diesel among U.S. consumers.


"The Jeep Liberty CRD is helping to dispel the myths about diesel technology. And that's because, most importantly it is a clean-running, common-rail diesel, with the latest Jeep technologies and benefits," Bell said. "Most definitely, this is not your father's loud, smoky, sluggish diesel."


Because of an infusion of technology, including common-rail diesel (CRD), today's diesel engines have 80 percent lower particulate emissions, 70 percent lower NOx emissions, 15 percent improved fuel consumption, 50 percent more power and 30 percent more torque than diesel engines had just a decade ago. They are also much quieter.



The 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD, equipped with a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder, turbo common-rail diesel engine, combines the torque of a V-8, the acceleration of a V-6 and the fuel economy of a four-cylinder engine. Benefits of the Jeep Liberty CRD include:



Best-in-class torque and towing capacity.



Best-in-class range - 500 miles highway.



22 percent higher fuel economy compared with a comparable gasoline-powered Liberty (3.7-liter, V-6 engine).



Lower emissions of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.


"Diesel engines are also durable — often running hundreds of thousands of miles with little routine maintenance," Bell said.


Chrysler Group is extending the warranty on diesel engines in all 2006 model year vehicles; the Diesel Engine Limited Warranty covers engine parts and components up to five years or 100,000 miles.


This durability also helps diesel-powered vehicles hold their value: in one example, a diesel-powered vehicle had a 64 percent higher residual value than a comparable gasoline model.


Bell acknowledged that the auto industry still has technical challenges before diesel vehicles become commonplace on U.S. streets and highways. Most notable are the need to further reduce emissions of NOx and particulates. The necessary technology is being developed, but more work is needed.


Bell noted that cleaner fuels are also needed to make diesel vehicles acceptable to Americans. "Low-sulfur diesel fuels that will be phased-in beginning in 2006 are critical," he said.


Chrysler Group is also supporting the clean fuels movement by fueling each new Jeep Liberty CRD leaving the assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio, with B5 fuel — made with 5 percent biodiesel made from Ohio soybeans. Biodiesel is a clean, renewable fuel that can further reduce our reliance on petroleum, while providing enhanced markets for American agricultural products.


"As the diesel market matures and fuel quality improves, we're confident we can develop the technology to meet EPA Tier 2, Bin 5 standards, which will support sales of diesel passenger vehicles in all 50 states. That's our goal," Bell said.

We've run across this before and Jeep has denied that the warrentee was officially exteneded. The Press release was not an official notification of warrentee change. At least this is what I was told.

Hugs.....it wouldn't matter either way if it is covered under the 100k mi warranty, it should be covered under the diesel warranty spelled out in the owners manual (warranty book). Mine states you are covered for 6yrs/72,000 miles on the diesel engine. I think they (DCX) are just trying to get out of paying for the pump replacement,,,and that is just BS. Don't let them work you over, stand up for what you paid for!! Good luck and I will be crossing my fingers for you!!

My dealer gave me some bs that mine was only good for 3yr/36000 miles so i got pissed off with them and went to another dealer and covered my repaires just try another dealer they are just ganna try to rape ya like that i didnt let it happen and we paid how much more the diesel screw them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I'd share something interesting....

I'm sure you all have heard of the lifetime powertrain on all new DC vehicles and obviously there are some exclusions. I expected the SRT vehicles and diesel vehicles to be excluded but DC's logic becomes strange when it comes to the diesel's. On the jeep website, the warranty states that Dodge Ram/Sprinter are covered by the extended engine warranty (5/100K) which makes sense since they are excluded from this lifetime warranty deal. On the Grand Cherokee diesel however, DC states that the engine warranty is 3/36K. Go figure this one out...

The ram/sprinter has an optional gas (yech!) engine.

After spending the better part of an afternoon at a local dealer looking under the hood, and the vehicle itself, of a GC CRD, let's just say I wouldn't be surprised that they only went with a 3/36 warranty on it. Looked to me like they repeated many of the same mistakes (or practiced much of the same cost-cutting) that they did on the KJ CRD, yet want you to pay an extra $15K for the privilege of having an MB engine in it.

I'm starting to give some weight to the stories I've heard from some long-term MB owners, who turn their noses up at anything they built after the early 90's, when they say MB quality started heading south.
