I think that I have heard that your ESP becomes more active if you have a lift. Or is that the case with the manual tranny?

I am thinking of going with the daystar KJ09116 2.5" spacer lift which happens to be on sale for $218 thru All J for the month of august.

I mainly drive my libby on the highway, but I would be getting into some "lighter duty" trails, but nothing crazy, so the potential ESP issue could suck...

Other than that, does anyone know if lifting ones libby (or spacing in my case) would affect the ability to tow?
I understand that springs would be the ideal way to go, but it's not in my buget, and if I do decide to get into serious wheeling I would probably purchase a dedicated vehicle for that task, so this lift is probably 90% astetics, and 10% increased function as 90% of my driving wouldn't call for a lift at all.

Thanks.

Well Mark, I guess I was one of the few that had problems with the ESP. It does seem to be localized to the 6spd. I don't know why, but mine started happening before I added a lift, and it just got progressively worse. I don't know if adding a lift will make this issue appear for you or not. All I can suggest is that if you get it on and it starts causing problems, then you either live with it (like I did for almost a year) or remove the lift (and hope it goes away). The lift should not affect you towing. If anything, with a 2" lift, you might need a drop in your hitch, which will make it easier with the spare tire :)

Moose, did you every try pulling the "ESP" fuse under the hood? I just saw that this weekend while I was detailing my libby, and thought of you.

Well, yes, I thought about it, but then I figured that if/when I get into an accident, my issurance company might renig because I "disabled safety features". This is one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" things...

where / how did you get your speedo recalibrated ?

i got a ticket last weekend for speeding 81 in a 70. my cruise was set at 70, so it seems to be 11 miles off. i checked it with ye ole' gps and sure enough its about 9 miles off.

need to get this done quick. not having an accurate speedo sux.

Is my KJ the only one with an "ESP kill" button above the steering column? I only have 500 miles on this thing yet, and haven't tried pushing all the buttons, so I don't even know if it's on or off or what happens when it's pushed.

Well, it doesn't kill all of it, or the traction controll portion, which is what decides that when you turn right onto a busy street and accelerate hard to get up to speed that you are actually out of control and limits your RPMs to 800 or so for a second or two. Very fun to see:
FedEx
FedEx
FedEx
FedEx
FedEx

in your mirror while your KJ is doing 800 RPM's and your foot is to the metal. Just glad the next lane over was empty that time...

i paid 45 dollars. so i guess it will vary from dealer to dealer. then again my dealer also installs lifts so they do it themselves all the time.
