Just did a transmission flush and fill for the the 60k, it looks like I was able to take out more than 5 quarts just from dropping the pan and changing the filter. I then added 5 quarts and started the engine, and idle then started to shift into gear and the automatic transmission is not even going into gear. The car is still able to start. I read that the only possibility for a home mechanic DIY is not enough transmission fluid. But through the dipstick it's right in between the two hole at hot temp. I'm kinda scared what can be the possibilties, I'm a newbie in doing my own maintenance. Could it be not enough oil in the transmision. Please help!!!

What does the dip stick say? Sounds like youve not put enough fluid in it, I did the same thing.

I drove it for a sec then it went into Limp mode since it was slipping. :? All it needed was another quart or so.

Also, be sure to check the tranny oil with the tranny in N. If it is indeed low on fluid, drive it after adding the proper amount according to the dip stick then get it to operating temp and check it again with the tranny in N.

ahh, forgot about that filter. There is an O-Ring that some people do not put back on the new filter.

so this is on the flat filter right? I'm sure that the o ring is there the filter came with a new one but perhaps it's probably loose?

Yes the flat filter. This spin on is for the trans cooler.

If i remember correctly when i did my shift kit i had to pry the old oring out of my trans case and the new one has to be intstalled before the filter is put in. I always cycle the trans through the gears for about 10 seconds each then throw it in neutral and then check the fluid.

My new filter did NOT come with a new oring. I had to take the one off the old filter.

okay sorry I'm a newbie but I just got done double checking that o-ring and it's flushed to the fitting where it's supposed to be. I checked the transmission fluid and I read it to be full, I don't want to put too much transmission fluid and ITS STILL NOT SHIFTING INTO GEAR, just frustrated should I add half a quart to see what happens, or one full quart? I'm out of ideas.

Add fluid until its above the ADD holes with the tranny in N. Drive it for a few min then check it again with the tranny in N; the fluid should be on HOT at this point.

Does it go into gear? Or just not shift out of 1st gear? Is the check engine light on?

Once you do get it full of fluid, you may need to reset the check engine light. It goes into limp mode since the tranny is low on fluid, that way it wont hurt itself.

when I try to shift from park to R,N,D, 1,and 2 there is just no shifting with the engine or transmission, nothing is happening, so I really can't drive it.

I wouldnt say anything about the fluid change. Throw some mud under there to make it look like it wasn't touched. :)

really, but I changed it with mopar transmission fluid. Do you think they still might have a problem with that. Or is it because I fiddled with the thing?

Just tell them it quit shifting. Changing tranny fluid is normal maintenance so they shouldnt say anything. Like Jepster said i wouldn't mention anything about changing it unless they ask. If its not fluid or the ring it is probably something a little more serious that wasn't your fault.

the reason you dont tell them is because if you do maintance yourself when you are still under warranty, they do not have to honor it anymore. unless its done by a certified mechanic with proof or done by the dealership then they can blame the problem on you and say tough luck.
