Well, the first time something happened, I saw the manager in the pit going at my drain plug with a hammer. I went over there and asked him what was up. He told me that his guy stripped the plug trying to get it off. He said that all the mud from my MOAB trip dried like cement over the plug. He told me that he fitted a new plug onto it that they could get a wrench on next time so this would not happen again.
Last week, the manager (who's a cool dude) was not there. I saw them taking a very long time again, this time one of the dudes was holding a vacuum hose over the oil fill while the other guy was struggling in the pit. I guess the guy up top thought the guy was done and added more oil. The guy from the pit came up to tell me that the plug was stripped. I told him it was brand new and Jiffy Lube installed it. He then said "well, we stripped the threads on the vehicle too". He told me that he put a temp plug on there and that I should get it repaired and give them the bill. I drove away to Pocatello and about two hours up the road, I get a call from them and they tell me that they put the wrong oil in. On the way back, the CEL came on.
I plan to leave my Jeep at the dealer for repairs while I am in FL.

OK, when I left this morning to go out on the highway the same condition was present. After about 40 MPH on the speedo (43 - 45mph in reality) the revs climb but the speed increases very slowly. I am abandoning the cool tranny idea because once I was cruising at 65 MPH and hit the throttle to pass someone. the RPMs increased and the Jeep actually started to slow down!

The idea that the Speedo needs calibration is interesting, I always assumed it was a dumb guage that gave you some indication of speed. I had no idea that the computer used it to determine what gear the tranny shifted to. I guess if the computer thinks that I am going faster than I am it would not be selecting the right gear for the job.

I told the dealer that I would need a recal along with them sorting through the Jiffy Lube mess. I will pick it up on Sept 6, I will update you on this.

Thanks for all your input. I probably will still look into gears and TC for the future. If I can climb the mountains with a simple recal of the speedo, that would be fab.

STAY AWAY FROM JIFFY LUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that was common knowledge? They did the same thing to my buddies '00 Explorer, stripped out the drain plug and for some unknown reason put 15w-40 in a engine that requires 5w-20,what idiots. At least they are paying for it,personnally I would sue them out of buisness  .

It is not gears or the spedo. I have done neither and mine drives almost like stock, you have other issues, plus the spedo cant be calculated for tires bigger than stock.

4.0 SOHC I suppose? I know my 01 Exploder 5.0L took 5w30.

15w40...who in the HELL COULD make that mistake? "gee, uh, i didn't see the GIANT YELLOW LETTERS on the CAP"

maybe they didn't fill his oil filter before they installed it?

Perhaps the CEL and the strange behaviour are linked.
I got the oil changed before I got the tires the CEL came on on my way home from Pocatello. The Jiffy Lube guy read the code and cleared it when I brought it back. I then got the tires put on and drove to CO. The CEL did come back on during the trip, maybe I am blaming the mountains for something the ECU is trying to tell me.
I'll know more in Sept.

I just heards from the dealer. My bill was $145 for the alignment and the Jiffy Lube repairs. The service writer said the drivability issues were solved when the tech found a loose harness. I had the air box and the batt tray out when I installed the lift so anything is possible. He says it drives perfectly now. I will not pick up my jeep until 9/5 so I will not know for sure until then. I have to say that I have been very impressed with my local Jeep dealer to date.

peeps on here have recalabrated their speedo for larger tires.
i'm having it done this weekend.

i noticed a significant decrease in power when i added the 265/75's
if im doing 75, up a decent hill, the kj is screaming at me to let off the gas.

a few times the temp gage made its way a little more to the right than i like

Any updates with this? My CRD is a dog out a breath right now on the slight uphill grade.

I am in Grand Junction, CO right now. I cruised here from St George, UT at 80 MPH. When there is a steep grade, I have to turn OD off or else the tranny downshifts. When I turn off the OD, the cruise has no problems maintaining 80MPH up steep hills. I drive all over the Rockies and I still have the stock gears. My problem turned out to be a loose harness by the airbox which caused limp mode.
I am going to change the gears one day, but I am going to wait on the results of a future Troy research project.

Here's a cool tool to figure out gear ratios & the results under different parameters:http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
Both KJ transmissions are in the pull-down menu. There is a lot of things you can play with & see the calculated results.

BTW, where are the photos of your KJ with the 32"s??? :D
