Hello all-
As my user name indicates, I work for Eaton/Detroit Locker. On a few other websites I'm known as 'Tractech' but since Eaton bought Tractech (the makers of Detroit Locker and Truetrac LSD's), I have a new name. I'm a Jeeper (based in the Seattle area) and some here may know me as I'm responsible for the build-up of the Detroit Locker Liberty.
Anyway, the purpose for my visit today is to look for a well built Liberty that can be available for a trail ride in Washington State the week of 9/10. Chrysler will be out here for a trail ride with a Commander that was tricked out for SEMA. 2 Magazines will be covering the trip and we're going to be having many different types of Jeeps attend. We'll have everything from an old flat fender to a new 07 Wrangler. I'd like a Liberty to fill out the list. There should be about 10 rigs, total, in our group.

Requirements are as follows-
33" tire minimum
winch
CB
One diff must have an Eaton/Detroit Locker/Truetrac diff. The other end can be open or with stock diff. Factory LSD rear and open front is not enough.
First aid kit
Normal trail tools and know-how to use them
Spare parts

We'll be wheeling for 3 days in 2 different areas.

Hmm... the only one close to filling your minimum requirements up in that area is Seths from ARB and you can guess what lockers he is running.

My SFA KJ should be done in the next month or so and has a Detroit locker in the rear but I am pretty far from the Wa. area. :?

That's really fantastic that you want a KJ in your well-documented Jeep excursion Eaton/Detroit Locker, but finding a KJ with 33" tires isn't going to be easy.

However, I'd love to see stats and pictures of the Detroit Locker Liberty.

Hey here is an idea, and I don't mean to be a jerk...

Since a KJ will be there for the magazines to cover and this is being sponsored by Eaton/Detroit Locker, and all the publisity from the articles are going to generate sales for you or you would not be doing it, why not funrish some lockers for the KJ's and others. Since we will be putting our rigs to work for you, why not put you parts out there for us to use?

Find a KJ that is running 33 inchers and offer to convert what ever they may already have (since it is common sense that if you are going to be running that kind of rubber then it isn't just for show and you are serious about off roading that thing and most likely will already have lockers on atleast one diff anyway) and see if they will ALLOW you to use their vehicle to sell your product.

Just a thought.

I agree, finding a KJ with 33's might be tough. I might be persuaded to allow 32's if that makes a difference. The terrain will be tough enough that the smaller tires might cause frequent winching. As we're all well aware, anytime you have a large group, you never can get very far without some type of issue. If we can keep moving without extra winching we'll be able to do more trails. I don't think there will be anyone on the trip with less than 35's and many will be running 37's. Additionally, most will be locked at both ends. Fighting your way over obstacles is a great way to increase your possiblity of body damage as well as breaking drive train parts.
I still would like a Liberty on the trip. I've seen them work very well and they could easily cover the trails we're doing if they're set up right.

"Set up right" with anything more than 33" requires significant amount of greenbacks. You'll find more 31" + 2.5" lift than SFA conversion.

He's in Seattle. That's where Seth hangs his ARB hat, and he's got the only KJ to fit the bill. He's also conveniently close. But he works for ARB! :oops: :roll:

it's great of you too invite a liberty along on this event..... and i hope that someone will step up to the plate.. or be able to step up.. and finally show what a liberty can do. I think 32's would be alright with the right lift instead of 33's i know that i've wheeled with a lot of wranglers / XJ's with 33's and 35's and never needed winched.. infact i've needed to pull them a time or two... i think a 3 or 4 inch lift with 32's and lockers would be great for this article.. of course skid plates might be mandatory. just my 2 cents

Perhaps you should push some of those off-road lift companies to create a 4" IFS lift (For use and not show) so we can run 33's and promote Detroit/Eaton Lockers.

This is a reason why you won't find but an extremely small number of KJ's with bigger than 32's and they are the ones with SFA converts. As stated earlier, they most likely already have lockers in them.

If you fix that issue for us, you can have all the KJ's you want with 33's. Until then, you are most likely SOL.

Come to Colorado and we will be more than willing to test your products for you on tough terrain.

I don't understand why you guys are even thinking about (even if a 33" running KJ could make it out there and it didn't already have seth's products in it) letting this "Stunt" go unrewarded. This is a marketing junket where they get ALL THE PUBLICITY because they are sponsoring the writing and production of the article and maybe even a HUGE ad or 2 in the magazines. this is nothing but advertising for them. you go out there and run the trails and potentialy spend a bunch of bucks on your rig, FOR THEIR BENEFIT!!

Why can't they foot the bill for a conversion and set up on somebody's rig as a "Marketing Expense" so they can make their sales quota? I guarentee you that the price to set up a KJ so it can run in this Photo Op is a hell of a lot less than what they have spent on ads for the magazines they have covering this.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

If They want to sell Lockers to KJ's then let them produce a KJ with the stuff they want to sell.

This is not a sport with out risk. WHY are we being asked to take ALL the risk So they can sell Lockers?

Excuse my Rant.

P.S. I am an editroial/advertising Photographer. I have seen this type of stuff many times before. You would not believe the things and the money spent behind the scenes to make this stuff happen.
