Trail Rash :(

I have some scratches on both sides of the truck that start on the front fender and end at the rear taillight... they're pretty light but i've never used a buffer before.

Any tips on attempting to get the scratches out? I'm a little upset that I got the truck scratched up, but I guess that's what happens when you use it

My opinion is keep the scratches, get a "chicks dig body damage" sticker, and call it a day. However, I've recommended this website more times than I can count, but check out http://www.autopia.org. They have more information on buffing, waxing, washing, etc, than you will ever use.

Seconded! Wear these battle scars proudly. But, if you must, Maguire's Scratch-X and a lot of elbow grease ...

If you can feel the scratches with your finger nail then they are not coming out.

Meguiars scratch-x is a great product but it requires ALOT of elbow grease. I have a small vid of Mike Phillips demonstrating what it takes to remove mild swirls and scratches from the hood of a car.

What he is saying is, the scratch-x has diminishing abrasives that break down as you work it into the paint. It will start out aggressive then break down and polish the paint to a good finish.

Most people say its best to work the scratch-x against the scratch and thats fine, it doesn't really matter though since you are just removing clear coat.

that "girls dig body damage" sticker is looking more and more like the answer... i'll have to ask my lady if she likes body damage first :-)

when you go to PepBoys or where ever else to get your stuff take caution.

Like what was said before if you can catch a finger nail in the scratch is is probrably NOT going to buff out.

Buffing compounds ALL OF THEM have sand or pumice in them and actualy remove the top layers of clearcoat and paint.

RUBBING compound has more abrasive pumice in it and will sand it down to the bare metal. BE VERY CAREFUL, elbow greese can destroy your paint fast.

Had a friends dog get my drivers side door the other day. Almost killed the freakin hound, but then i said Oh well had to happen sooner or later. First scratches, 4,000 miles not bad for a jeep.

Hey, I just moved from California to NC right? One of the things the moving company does is take a sheet of paper and write down all the scratches and stuff on your vehicle so you can't blame them for any scratches. Well, you know where this is going :lol:

Yeah, his sheet of paper for my wife's KJ has two notations and on mine he had to write on the reverse side :-)r

looking at the picture it realy isn't that bad, yes a buffing would take it out with a mild/medium compound, or if you just want to hide it for awile, wash,clay bar,wax ( paste wax) but a buffer will definitly take care of it...just my .02 ( 13 yrs exp. detailing)

It's just plastic, it should pop back out to the original shape, more or less, at least.

This cannot be buffed, I'm pretty sure. Not only can you feel this with your thumbnail, I'm pretty sure you could be wearing welding gloves and feel these. From rubbing against the side of some bentonite hills (I had been hoping for some rain before that competition, so the clay would have just been slimy, instead of scratchy)...

If I ever get my vehicle custom painted i'll be sure to do that!

I'll be doing the bedliner thing to that area, eventually anyway. Gotta scratch it to make it stick anyway, right? :lol:

The rest is going to get a custom paint job as well.
