In schedule B, it instructs you to drain and re-fill the front and rear axle fluid at 12,500 mis. In schedule A, it never says to do it all. It seems odd that the light duty schedule (A) would never require it, but the heavy duty schedule (B) requires it every 12,500 miles.

I don't do any off-roading, but I do a mixture of stop and go surface road driving as well as long-distance highway driving ... no towing either. We have extreme temps here where I live. Night time in the Winter can go down into the teens, where as mid-day temps in the summer can easily (and regularly) breakk 100 degrees.

I thought it was odd that it is never called for in the light duty (A) schedule at all. What do you guys think?

A lot of things are "odd" about the schedules A and B The first is to most people's thinking they are backwards as most will fall under "B" Also note that if you have a CRD the tires are supposed to be rotated at every 6k oil change

I changed the fluids. The mechanic I trust who works ith a lot of small diesels and larger trucs, kept telling me that I didn't need to do, that this schedule was ridiculous. While I agreed that the schedule made little sense, I did it anyways so that I avoid hassles at the dealership and don't invalidate the warrentee.

Since I am married, I have had many lessons in "just do what they say, no matter how ridiculous, to avoid the hassles".

It does seem excessive. I agree. Especially for those of us who use it mostly for highway driving (light duty). But, since I am still under warranty and considering purchasing a Chrysler Extended Warranty, I will do it.
