So I got his winch for free. It's stamped as an 8400 lbs. winch. I got it for nothing so I am not complaining. It's a super small and slick set-up. The control box that normally resides on top of Warn's and other winches is at the end of 6 feet of wire, so the motor and spool are all that's left and can be tucked up quite nicely inside the stock front bumper I think. I'll keep you posted on that project.

Anyways, I "Googled" the winch and all i got is three links, yes, three! Apparently it's for boats/trailer use I guess from the catalouge link I checked out. Crazy! Anyone have any info on these things? Seems pretty hefty for a boat winch! Hey, 8400 lbs is just great with me!! I smell some recovery very very soon

Many years ago you saw some of the boat winches on the older Jeeps when the electrics were first coming out. Most were power takeoff winches back then. They had an auxillary crank handle on then so you could help the winch out if it was getting up to max capacity. Line capacity wasn't much on those winches.

I would be concerned about using that for recovery. Definitely not what it's meant for. I bet the gears and brakes aren't meant for the kind of load applied when winching a vehicle. Just my $0.02

sorry, was out of town for the week...

NEway, yeah, I have seen those things on eBay, the "boat winches". They claim to be "huge capapcity" yada yada but it's all rolling weight, such as a boat in water floating. This one has 8,400lbs right on the tag attatched to the motor. I was going to get a rack fab'd up to go inside the factory bumper bolted to the towhook holes. I think I'll just attatch it to my hitch reciever winch mount and see just what it can do.

I'll keep y'all posted.
