A favor please,

Can you note the maximum FIA (scanguageII) air inlet temperature ,you have and note if this is with or without ORM and the approx ambient temp.?

I posted mine earlier but to update with newer max values

180 F without ORM, 150 F with ORM , 100 F Arizona day

Keep in mind that MrMopar47 said that the inlet air is supposed to be 30 deg above ambient. Yikes!

You can see why I want to know what is "normal".

Maybe my Intercooler is filled with oil?

Today on way the home it was around 102+ out. Air intake temp was 154 with ORM. This was on the way home on the "offroad Jeep only" highway poking along at 50 mph. The Scanguage locked up halfway home, as usual. As for the only 30 degrees higher-- it was 125 before I even started the motor (good old sunshine hitting the hood).

Pablo,

The SGII will display the last recorded value when it first gets power, I believe. so your 125 F was from the prior shutdown?

After the CRD sits for say, 20 hrs, at 85 F, it seems to be close "stone cold". If you are quick to not the starting temp of the FIA, while the engine is running, it reads something close to the ambient air temperature +5. I use this as a reality check.

So, your ORM delta T of about 50 F is the same as mine. Interesting

Bill

The prior startup read would make sense, I just figured that in the engine on position (even with motor off) it would be showing real data. I will check again tomorrow. I also notice the temp is much higher after shutting it down for a few minutes to a few hours and then starting it back up (heat soak). The motor really holds heat in. I am thinking about ditching the insulation on the hood, I have already ditched the rest of the plastic insulation beneath and the CRD plastic engine cover. I am considering hood louvers and will do a transmission cooler at some point.

Since reading these couple of related posts I have switched input air back on. I generally am seeing the 30 degree delta ORM. When I first had the SGII I was running stock and it seems to me that the delta was somewhat greater than 30 degrees.

Max I'm seeing is 130 F, more usually 125 F, ORM, A/C on, temps in mid to high 90's, various driving conditions.

Depends on how much you're geting into the boost as well. I've noticed that higher boost = higher IAT. Talking with Ranger1, do a couple WOT runs once it's warmed up and you can watch the IAT soar.

It's 30 deg celsius, not fahrenheit which will give you considerably more leeway.

MrMopar.... ya a delta of 30 C is 54 F, but i am getting 45 C delta (80 F).

I am beginning to suspect the AC plays a part in this, heating the air that is supposed to cool the intercooler.

As a matter of fact, the stack of heat exchangers in the front is preety deep. I am surprised air flows through at all!

Just went to get mine inspected, so I plugged in the MAF, cleared the codes, and made the 10 mile round trip to the inspection station.

Secondary road and in-town driving, 45 mph max, about 80 F, no A/C, EGR active, IAT was staying 165 to 180, most of the time around 175 +/- about 3 degrees. EGR sucks.

Pulled back in the driveway and let it idle. IAT was hanging between 155 - 160. When the EGR shut off after a minute or so, it plummeted to 118 F inside of 30 seconds.

The AC will definitely play a big part in the cooling ability of the CAC...but the 180F IAT's aren't too bad. I've pushed mid-upper 200's when running WOTs for extended periods of time w/o cool-downs, and that's even with the CAC inside a water bath.

Recorded numbers again. It was 107-104 F outside.

Right after engine startup it got down to 118 and then started to climb. It stayed around 145-155 when cruising towards home. I stopped at Walgreens for ten minutes and shut the motor off, when I started it back up it was at 180 and quickly cooled back to 145 when I started moving. A couple WOT runs sent it up to 185, I suppose that turbo contributes to both the heat soak when shut off and the spike after the WOT runs.

Someone might look into a liquid intercooler to replace the air exchanger if they want more punch. I am not that worried about the intake temp, it is tons better than before ORM.

Thank for the posts.
I think we have similar temps and a 50F to 80 F delta seems to be normal operation.

Thanks again
