A little research and I found this article about predator and a powerstroke, sounds like they work good if they don't create too much heat to burn the turbo. I also called Predator and they said that their product doesn't effect the computer and will not create extra heat by adding excess fuel. They said that the power gains tested on the lib were 45hp and 90 ft/lbs of torque.

When you add more fuel you build more heat. The powerstroke has a turbo which the max safe temp is around 1250 degrees pre-turbo temps. A stock motor will reach this when pulling hard.
Take my advice, first add a good exhaust temp guage with the probe mounted pre-turbo. Then get your programer or chip. Watch that EGT guage closely and do not let it climb past 1250 for "any" length of time, very short durations are fine but very long will cause the turbo to overheat. If you are running hot there are several options, one, you can try a straight thru designed muffler to ease the exhaust restriction. Two, you can go with a 4 inch exhaust (recommended) instead of the stock 3 1/2 inch. If you still need more after that then you will have to more to the intake and install a K&N conical type filter in place of the stock filter and airbox. Beyond these mods the only thing left is to back out of the throttle to avoid overheating.

I'm researching this one as well...it installs between the computer and fuel rail pressure switch...apparently, it increases fuel rail pressure and slightly changes the injection timing to add fuel earlier in the stroke than stock programming allows.

Because of its installation location, the computer supposedly cannot 'tell' that it is there...I suppose unless you get codes generated by its presence (overboost, overheating, etc.) I'd think gauges are a mandatory precursor to the predator install. We just need some brave soul to try it out.

When I called him he said there wasn't a problem with extra heat and all our sensors will work the same. So the heat issue might be a non issue, who will be the brave/rich(single man who could justify 600$ on a new product and not have to risk the dog house) soul.

Do they make a module specifically for the CRD, or can program spcecifically for the CRD? I'd rather have one that's vehicle specific, with some built-in safety limits to prevent damage to the engine caused by the loose nut holding the steering wheel. :)

Well, I'm single and retired military, so I guess I meet the eligibility requirements. But I'd rather get some more miles on mine (less than 500, only had it a week) and get better acquainted with it mechanically, before I venture where no one has gone before, and get wild and crazy with engine mods.

I have only had the Predator module installed for about 10 days now. I actually called Dr. Performance, the manufacturer, before I purchased it. They told me that the advertised HP gain in the ebay ad was not correct, and that the HP increase would only be about 40 hp instead of the 70 hp in the ebay ad. The 40 hp number feels about right. The turbo lag is still there, as you would expect with a turbo diesel, but the lag is shorter than stock, about one half second instead of almost a full second, and the power being delivered during the lag is greater than stock as well. The increase in power seems to make the 5 speed automatic shift harder than stock, but it doesn't seem like its putting a real strain on the tranny. I have not experienced any problems except that it did not come with installation instructions, instead it came with a piece of paper that said that it was so new that they were still waiting for the instructions to be printed when ,mine shipped from the factory, and it had a phone number to call and they talked me through the installation fairly easily. The installation took less than 5 minutes. I have only done one full tank of diesel since I installed it, but the fuel mileage numbers lokk to be slightly higher than stock even though I have been pushin the accelerator harder than before. My commute is about a 50-50 mixture of highway and surface roads, and I was getting about 23.5 mpg before. On this first tankful I got 24.9 mpg. All-in-all I'm happy with it. I just wish it wasn't quite so expensive.

I just ordered a predator module for my CRD after doing some research on other diesel boards. I also contacted the manufacture and they advised that it will actually lower exhaust gas temps. I bought it from ETR Diesel Performance. Nice people to deal with and they will come down on the price. The salesman advised that they had sold 250 of the CRD modules without any complaints or problems. It should arrive Wednesday I will post an update as soon as I get it in and test drive it.

It arrived today and it took about 3 minutes to intall. I took it around the block for a short test drive and it has a lot more zip. The turbo lag has almost completely disappeared. Seems to have much more power from a dead stop.

Since I do a fair amount of towing I'm interesting in some kind of mechanism for improving mileage and increasing power (the holy grail of motor vehicles right?). I like the idea of a downloader like the Bully Dog since I don't have to install extra stuff but I wonder if DC could tell that the ECU's been messed with? The Bully Dog supposedly has a "stock" setting but I would hate to have my warranty voided by messing w/ the ECU. Anyone used one of these things?

I have had the predator installed on my Liberty for about 3 weeks. I had to take it off so I could take the liberty into the dealer for service. Boy what a difference, felt like it was a slug the turbo lag was very noticeable again. I had been avg 24 mpg combined city and highway with the module.

What had it been averaging for MPG without the module, ie, did you see any worthwhile increase?

I was getting 22-23 mpg combined city and highway driving. I had about 10k on my CRD when I put the predator on. I think the reason I am getting better mileage with the predator is due to the extra performance. I don't have to press the go pedal as much.
