If your thinking of getting the extended warranty do it before you hit 48k miles or they won't sell it to you ( I was at 47,700). I finally broke down and bought the 7/100 bumper to bumper that covers all but wear and tear items. It cost $1780 / $100 deductable from www.ChryslerWarrantys.com. The dealer wanted $2500 for the same thing.

Pretty good info to know.. BTW.. if you try and price your own vehicle out you have to fill in your e-mail address. Do it.. and check it. I got a $180 off coupon code in the email... I don't know if I should pull the trigger or not.

Nix.
Ask yourself how long you going to keep your CRD and how many miles. I intend to have mine for a while and see where things could get pretty expensive for our one of a kind vehicle. I normally never buy extra warranties but did this time

I got a Wynn's extended plan (7/100) when I purchased my CRD. Had them for a '98 Chevy pickup before and just with the AC compressor going out, I got most out of my warranty. Also, the dealer waives the $50 deductable if I get the work done there. Got it for about $17-1800. figure if I have any real problem on the CRD, it will pay for itself on the warranty since most major things on the engine are high ticket items. That warranty along with a dealer that services a lot of diesels, maybe it'll all work out ok in the long run.

Either way, I sleep better at night since I am about to the end of the factory warranty period.

My dealer offered an extendd warantee from P.A.S

I could not find any info on PAS on the web, whichis a little suspect i feel

Anyway, the dealership is selling it because it is cheaper and can be used at any certified repair faciltity!

About $1400 for mechanical coverage to 70K or 7 years.

Not sure what to make of this.....

Bill

Some results of online searching

Maximum Care $100 Deductible, 5 years / 70,000 miles [Under 48,000 total miles and in-service Less than 48 months] Price includes extra charge for 4x4 and DIESEL !!

Maximum Care Added Care
www.eservicecontracts.com $1295 $1095
www.chryslerwarrantys.com $1445 $1240 ** note possible 180 discount with onlinecode 33633

I cant really detect what the difference is in max vs added other than 4200 line item parts.
Is the scam in the completness of the list? "Turbo thrust bearings are not listed, sorry"
Must use dealership for the work.. yikes!
Honored at all Chrysler, Dodge of Jeep dealerships in the United States, Canada or !! Mexico !!!. Muy bien para viajeros!

I am keeping in mind that a replaced oil pan is $1200 !

I haved considered a warranty, but what about having a lift, open exhaust, etc. Concensus seems to be that such "modifications" could void the whole shootin' match? I have heard horror stories about simple things such as someone using part store brand filters getting warranty refused. Have also heard'em say magmoss act protects us from everything. Truth proly lies somewhere in the middle but I have not convinced myself the money for ex. warranty is well spent with a non-stock rig?

The problem with the Magnusson-Moss Wararanty act is that you have to basically take the dealership/manufacturer to court in order to get back your warranty. Dealerships void warranties all the time (Mitsubishi, for example, is notorious for this) for bogus stuff and know that they won't have any problems unless you actually muster up the cash to hire a lawyer and take them to court. The dealers try an call your bluff. Only after you get serious do they back down and reinstate your warranty.

The Maxi plan (bumper to bumper is the only one that covers the emissions parts like EGR stuff. Also note if you get the coverage the way they verify mileage is looking at dealer service records to make sure you aren't over 48k.

Be careful with "mechanical coverage" only. It wouldn't cover the EGR valve, check engine light (maybe unless it relates to a mechanical part), engine or trans computer malfunctions, etc. This stuff can add up to $$$ quickly, so if you are going to get an extended, go for the B to B for only a few hundred more. The peace of mind will be well worth it.

Also, private company warranties are a hit-and-miss affair. The Jeep dealer you have to see when you are out-of-town may not participate with the same aftermarket company that the dealer that sold you the warranty does. (And what if this private company goes out of business 2 years from now?) Go with a Jeep/Chysler warranty so you are good at any and all Jeep dealers.

I been using private company warranties for years and never had a problem with them. Not only can you take it to any dealer but will cover private garages. They pay with credit card just like any other customer and no dealer shouldn't have a problem with that. Of course they have to call them first and get approved just like any other warrenty but so much easy than Chrysler Star Service.
