Wife complaint dept:
Smoke is coming from the engine compartment and I can see it in my headlights at night when I'm stopped

My co-worker saw smoke coming from under the vehicle and asked me if there was a problem with my engine.
Cause: Crank Case Vent hose drops straight down to the frame next to the engine (Elephant Hose Mod).
Questions: Anyone run the CCV hose all the way to the rear of the frame and did you keep a downward running slope to keep things moving? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>smoke what smoke?
I noticed that the CCV actually pulses with the engine running so without a filter is the engine sucking in dirt at the same time it's venting with this mod? My larger CAT diesel has a steel wool type filter on it's CCV hose. Both the CAT and Cummins vent hoses drop straight down the side of the engine. The Dodge Cummins diesel does not have any visible smoke from the crankcase vent with 50K miles on it, but from time to time you can smell it venting especially after an oil change of Shell Rosmella 15w-40. The Catapillar diesel with 100+K miles on it definitely smokes and emits refinery odors from the crankcase vent but otherwise the engine has full power.
Is the crank case "blow by" from the VM Liberty diesel normally visable with only 35K miles on it? So far she has not mentioned any odor associated with the smoke. Could it just be water vapor? I think it "hangs" longer than steam would.
