Brakes

HI I have just under 20K on my '05 KJ and was wondering what others have experienced for front and rear brake pad/rotor wear.

Replaces pads and rotors at about 12k miles on my 03. Used Napa parts.

The reason I replaced them was because I had a bad case of brake judder / steering wheel shimmy while braking. Guess the rotors were warped. Didn't want to go with OEM parts if this problem would come up every 12k or less miles. Couldn't be happier with the Napa brake pads and rotors, except there is some brake dust on the rubi wheels I run if I don't wash often.

Brake wear is determined on your driving style and location. If you are one of those that hit your brakes at every turn our hill, stop at the last minute or live in the city and have a lot of stop and go then you will wear them out quicker than someone who does 60 miles a day on the highway. At 20k I don't feel that you would have anything to worry about but I have not seen your Jeep or driving style.

37K+ with no problems. Mine have started to squeal a bit when stopping but I checked them when I rotated tires last and there was plenty of pad left all around.

I dont know how, but I just replaced the front pads at 48K and the rotors still looked brand new :shock:

Have about 35,000 on mine and still quite a bit of pad left. The semi-metallic pads tend to be a little noiser than others, but typical last longer and stop better.

My Jeep just turned 38,xxx miles.

I had both front rotors / pads replaced @ 36,5xx miles with less than 5% of friction material left on the all of the front pads. The rotors were replaced due to rust / scalling inside the vents even though there was plenty of material avalible for turning and reuse. I went with Napa replacement rotors and Ceramic pads to cut down the stopping distance / brake dust. I do a lot of city driving and a little highway driving on the weekends (Throw in a couple weekends of towing a 6'x12' trailer also) which keeps the mileage down, but after 3 years of service, the brakes were almost gone.

I can't comment on the rear discs because my poor Liberty still has drums.

Thanks for the replies. Actually my driving style is very easy on brakes. Have only really "stood" on them a couple of times. My driving is 50% highway/town. Just a little worried as I recently read of a real "horror story" about a KJ that had trashed front and rear brakes and rotors at 20K on another forum. Consensis on the forum that the OEM brakes were junk and was concerned about changing them to aftermakets soon.
