Gentlemen: I have read many discussions about the CRD's warranty. As a matter of fact, when I purchased my 2006 my dealer told me about the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. It was a determining factor in my purchase decision. As my unit approached the 30k mile mark, I started looking for any indication of a different warranty for the CRD and found nothing in my books. Las time I went for warranty work I asked the Customer rep about my warranty. He told me that the standard 2/36 applied and that is what showed on his system. He even called the person in charge of the warranties at the dealer and she told him that she was not aware of any different warranty for the CRD. I am pretty sure they did not sell many of these Libertys and that mine is one of the first to approach the limit. My question; has anyone in this forum exceeded the 36k miles and managed any type of warranty service? I am on my second EGR valve and it's starting to worry me!! :?:

The '05 was 7/70 in the US and I believe in Canada and the '06 was 3/36 unless you had a special incentive (I did for 2 extra years). There was some talk about a 100K diesel engine warranty in 2006 but no one has nailed that down hard for the CRD. Things may be different in Central Americ with respect to the warranty than up here though. Also the warranty was not specific to the CRD but for all of the KJ's if I am not mistaken.

Hmm, lets see what came in the mail today...

Oh look, a letter from Chrysler Motors LLC.

Lets see what it says...

Dear David K Fleischmann

Our records indicate you are the second owner of a Chrysler Motors LLC
vehicle...blah blah blah...

All Chrysler vehicles by the Basic Limited Warranty... blah blah blah...
...3 years from in service date or untill it reaches 36,000 miles.
(Ok, lets get to the good stuff)
...But, because you purchased the above vehicle from a previous owner,
your vehicle is NOT covered by the Powertrain Limited Warranty. The
Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the powertrain components of a
vehicle, begins when the Basic Limited Warranty expires, and runs until
7 years from the in-service date of the vehicle, or untill the vehicle
reaches 70,000 on the odometer, whichever comes first. It covers the
original owner only, but it may be transferred to the second owner for a
$150 fee. It may not be transferred beyond the second owner.

Blah blah blah...
blah blah blah...
blah blah blah...

Any other warranty coverages, including applicable emmission and
noise warranties required by law (wonder what that means?), and
5 YEAR/100,000 MILE COVERAGE OF A DIESEL ENGINE, continue
unaffected.

Blah blah blah blah...

Very yruly yours,

Warranty Planning and Administration
Chrysler Motors LLC

Wow, you actually have a letter saying 5 year 100K on the diesel? Save it, copy it, send it around.

You know Sam, if you were interested and if there wasn't a specific disclaimer in the document that you received to cover your situation, the FTC would consider this an offer to sell I believe and Jeep/Chrysler would be stuck with it.

The letter also says "goto your nearest dealer to verify eligibility."

Im betting the big "rebuilt from salvage" stamp on my doorjamb might be a turn off for them.

Though I do agree with you, if I took it in and paid the money they sure as doo doo better do the work, should the need ever arise.

The thing is out of all my Jeeps I have never had one with a warrantee on it, so its kinda wierd to even be in the position that it I might even be able to make a warrantee claim.

The green canvas kit containing the owner's manual, lemon law pamphlet, service schedule, etc., etc...

In that kit, there's a small (4.25"x7") booklet call the "24-Hour Towing Assistance Information Guide".
cover is white and yellow

That booklet states, at least three times, that vehicles with a diesel engine also receive a 7-year/100,000 Limited Diesel Engine Warranty and 24-Hour towing will be providing for defects covered under this warranty.

This booklet directs, "see your warranty booklet for a list of covered Powertrain and Diesel Engine components." My 2005 warranty booklet lists the engine components covered under 7/70 on page 11. Looks to me that a reasonable interpretation of all this is that we have 7/100 warranty for the engine parts on page 11.

ByTheWay... since these are due for a timing belt at 100K (and I'm already past 80K), I really need to find a shop manual for thing.

Let me make sure I have this right...your signature line says you have an '05. Does this mean that the 100K warranty isn't just for the '06 models?

So, here is the question...

When I bought this CRD from the Saturn dealer, I had no clue about this
Jeep warranty and neither did the dealer. So I bought an extended
warranty plan (3rd party) through the Saturn dealer. The plan I bought
covers me to 75000 miles.
Now, should I keep the plan I bought, which covers everything except
brake pads, belts, and tires?
Or, should I get a refund (pro-rated) and pay the $150 for the Chrysler
plan?

The 05 had a 7/70 power train warranty. It has been determined that things like the EGR are not part of the PT warranty. Ithink it's something like "internally lubricated parts only". So if your third party warranty covers more then just the very basic power train then it's better. But remember it's no better then the company behind it.
