Has anyone seen large differences between their hand calculated fuel mileage and the EVIC mileage? I routinely see differences of 2+ MPG between the two with the hand calculated being the lower of the two. I average ~19-20 MPG under everyday driving conditions and the EVIC says ~21-22 MPG. Does anyone know how to fix this large discrepancy? I don't necessarily care if the numbers are different however I'd think a few tenths difference between the two should be a little more realistic.

I did until I realized my Odometer was wrong, once I corrected for its incorrect reporting the EVIC turned out to be within 1mpg of perfectly accurate...

My evic is 7% too optimistic.

Also, I get the feeling that the evic gives you an average with a strong bias to the mpg measured recently, maybe one hour or so...
for example..... climb a mountain pass. it starts at say 20 mpg, then at the top of the climb an hour later it shows 17.5, then you go back down the way you came and the evic reads 22 mpg! (should be lower than when started) I believe that the hour of going downhill biases the average, since it is the most recent data.

sooo.... it might not be surprising that the EVIC may show more or less thant the tank average.

A buddy of mine has a Commander and it's EVIC is accurate when calculating MPG. I know this first hand since we both took our vehicles on a long road trip together and I saw what it reported and what we calculated. Secondly other pals of mine who have other brands of vehicles having EVIC's say that their calculated MPG vs. the EVIC is spot on. My concerns on this issue are:

1) Why is the Odometer inaccurate in the first place since Jeep programed the original parameters of the vehicle (tire size, etc.)
2) Why does the EVIC report an incorrect MPG reading?

Anybody else have a fix or a similar issue with their EVIC?

I think that the fact a diesel returns extra fuel makes the calculation more difficult for the EVIC technology. I am not sure why most of the CRD's are undercalculated on the ODO from 5% > 7% but most are. When I calculated 3 refills by had versus the EVIC from a cold start there was less than 1 MPG difference on mine after the mileage adjustment. That's enough for me and hand granades. Part of the issue may be that most Limited gassers were shipped with 17" tires in 05 and 06. Since the CRD was an option in the build it may have been that the default programming for the ODO was from the gasser and no one really considered the CRD. I am not complaining though as they gage me 5% more guarranty along the way.

My two best tanks were freeway driving through the Smoky Mountains. 26 and 27 mpg. Cruise set at 5 over the speed limit. Around Michigan, 24 is a good tank, possibly because I don't drive 100% freeway for a full tank unless I'm leaving the state. It's still a darn sight better than the 15-16 I got with a 2002 3.7L KJ (same transmission and axles).
