Hi all,
I stumbled on to this site. I have a CRD and love it. I am at 65k miles right now.
No major problems yet. I have owned diesels pickups for years and needed a suv got the crd.
I have had a couple codes this week. 1 egr flow and 2nd boost press. I cleared them and cleaned map sensor and filter. I wonder if they will come back. Thanks and this is a great site.

I got the same 2 codes a few months ago. It came and went for a week until I made an appt. at the dealer. Dealer warrantied (still under 36K) a new ERG. I have heard it is expensive wiht out warranty. As you are likely past warranty, you might have a new EGR put on and talk to some guys on here about the ORM (sounds like you have a scanner already) and/or the EHM. Theoretically these extend the life of the EGR (basically by rendering it inoperable). Search for ORM and EHM on here, ask questions, I cant give you the best technical detail but this site is full of friendly experts. Welcome as well....

Welcome!

I would take the advice of the others here about the various mods to disable the EGR, wouldn't waste my $ having a new one installed. If its throwing a code because it is clogged, then I woud be concerned about how much of that gunk passed into the intake manifold.

Actually, a clogged EGR wouldn't be that bad, kinda like having a block off plate installed. I would still totally disable it through the mods mentioned or a competent tuner that has the ability to disable it through the ECU program and permanently turn off the associated CEL.

I have a tuner lined up that has different levels of tuning programs for the CRD and the ability to turn off the EGR/CEL. He has some reservations about providing performances tunes for the CRD if it has an adverse affect on the transmission. I will be meeting him in late October here in SE Wisconsin where he will be tuning several VW TDI's at a TDI GTG.

If I get the CRD programmed by this tuner, I'll report back with more info.

Mark

In addition to Off Road Mod (to minimize EGR input), I would unplug your fuel heater element as it is a safety problem. I'm on a crusade to get this recalled. You can read the reasons and instructions on this thread:

I'd spend some time looking at the amount of air in your filter head. Thing is a POS design, so keep an eye on it. Some genius at DC never put a lift pump on this rig. Gonna cost them BIG TIME when the NHTSA gets them.

You also might take a close look at airbox mods (or an Amsoil filter), but you may already have done that.

I had the same codes about a month ago. The dealer told me they go in order of the less severe which turns means the "least expensive" for them. Tried replacing my boost sensor but still threw the code and ended up with a new EGR valve. When I got the code around 32K and they called me to tell me the codes they found, I knew I was getting a new EGR valve due to the similar mileage of the many other failures many other people have reported on here.
