We have a Jayco 23B(expandable) that weighs almost exactly the same as yours. Just got back from Red River, NM. Pulled it on the plains, then over Bobcat Pass,(9000 ft.) Averaged 17 mpg. For some reason does better in the mountains than flat ground. When got back to Texas hit head winds. Milage quickly went down to 13mpg. Love the way the Liberty pulls though.

I have generally noticed this to be true, its easyer for me to get good MPG in the mountains than on flat ground.

yeah especially if you take advantage of the downgrades and don't try to beat things up too much onthe uphills .
the only place i noticed the opposite was westbound in pennsylvania. the grades were long and almost all uphill so my average dropped there. but for 3075 miles i averaged just shy of 15 with a tall flat front trailer

yup, my guess is that if your willing to drive up hill at 55 instead of 75 your gas mileage doesnt take a hit quite the same.

yeah wind resistance does alot to mine, i know on the flat if i set a t 64 or so it gets far far etter mileage than at 68 or in the 70's. still need to add at least an extra transcooler to make me real happy about towing in the mountains though. otherwise though the little jeep is an awesoem tow vehicle.

Camping World. It's supposed to mount at the window but I pop the hood and hook it in the body near the hood latch instead. There are several brands McKesh comes to mind first but I think mine are Eagle somethingorother.

Hi Danoid,

This looks like a pretty cool mirror setup. We have the McKesh mounted in the usual door location. Out of curiosity, how does this work for you with opening and closing the doors?

I finally got a picture of the new trailer I picked up this summer. I found a couple of used Jeep 15 inch wheels for the trailer.

I think I'll keep the weight on the rear and get some load range E's and be happy.

Hi Danoid,

I am looking at these tires to replace my Firestone Destination A/T P-rated tires:

Pirelli Scorpion ATR

They come in load range D in the 225/75SR16 size. They are new, but the TireRack reviews are pretty good, and many reviews explicitly mention the lack of road noise and nice ride. Whatcha think? E range may be too high on a KJ.

If I was towing rigs like that, I would seriously consider swapping in the 4.10s...I know it is only 10% diff...but that would help a bit I would bet...especially at speeds of 50+
