ok im in the center console looking at the two wires connected to the cigarett lighter, there is a black (neg) and a green/red (pos)

does anyone have any suggestions on what wire i should reroute the positive to?

it is on a constant 12v power , i want it to go on with accessories / ignition....

i was thinking of the radio...does anyone know which color the positive wire is?

ok well, that was quick

i have an aftermarket deck so i just looked for the wire that said "ignition/switched" and spliced into that one

but for you stock hardess guys, if you are looking at the car's wiring harness where it goes into the deck, the passenger side most 2 wires going in are red, then if you move one spot left , on the bottom row, there is a yellow/pink wire

thats the one you splice to

Odd question, why would you want your Accessory Adapter to go off with the car? I love that it stays on. My wife's car shuts off and he cell never charges.

i have my GPS and my iPod plugged in my lighters

so when i turn the car off i dont have to press pause on the ipod or hold the off button on the GPS...it all loses accessory power, the iPod pauses and turns itself off, and the GPS counts down from 30 and goes off

I know this is a very old thread, but I used your post about the correct wire to splice to control the power point (lighter) by the ignition today.

I have replace two batteries because my XM lighter plug was draining the battery even though the XM unit itself was off.
Now I know when the ignition is off anything I have plugged in is off too! :google:

I have a 3 outlet extension mounted on the side of my console that I plug in to the main dash outlet. How it is now, I have to remember to unplug it so that it does not kill the battery.

I was planning on hard wiring it in with a switch on the console. However after seeing this post, I think I will wire it to come on with the key.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe you can help me. My cigarette lighter doesn't work. The fuse was blown. Everytime I try to replace it a short circuit comes up with a big (20 amp) spark.
