Does anyone know what the following stats are for a stock liberty with a 4x4 3.7?

Max climbing grade?
Max side-slope?
Max water fording ability?

These are advertised on the H3 commercials and websites everywhere but I can’t find it on any Jeep sites (other than the Wrangler Rubicon.)

I think officially the fording is 20.5" with the top mounted air box

I think Side Slope is in the 37 degree area +/- 2 degrees

I would bet 55 degrees +/-2 degrees incline

Might as well include approach, departure, and breakover. However, I do not know them...

If you extend the breathers and take it slow, that's not a problem. ;)

Cool, thanks. OK, here's a question, say you are on more than a 37 degree side slope AND you have traction. Anything past that and it's rool over time? Personally, I think I've always slipped the rear before I've gotten an angle that steep but I've never done it on just rock.

The Liberty is 20.5" @ 10mph...a bit more down at 5 mph

Approach.................34.6
Break Over..............21.2
Departure.................32

This is on 235/65/17s (only a 28.9" tire)

Hummer OEM is 265/75/16 (which is a 31.8")

Toyota FJ

A.............................34
BO...........................N/A
D.............................30

265/70/17...30.7"

Nissan XTerra OR

A.............................33.2
BO...........................24.6
D.............................29.4

265/75/16.................31.8"

Jeep Liberty on very small tires does so well because of 104.3" wheelbase and shorter overall length. Just taller tires raises all those numbers up...235/75/16......29.84" will fit on stock KJ. That is almost 1" taller than the 235/65/17 used for the measurement.

It's basically impossible to climb a slope greater than 45 degrees as a friction coefficient of 1 (or greater than 1) is required. If you meant approach angle, that is something different, but as far as a sustained grade, I'm guessing around 60%, or 30 degrees. You're not likely to have enough traction to do better than that.

You're not fording if the water is barely above your tires.

The 5mph guideline is to keep the water from going over your hood, and thus into the intake.

Well not in that picture(the roosts just look cool), but at the end of the video I go through the same creek early in the season when it was very high, now that was fording!
(and I was 16 at the time so I was a little throttle crazy once the water went over the hood)
