Fair enough. Aero::pricey Do folks think that the pipe diameter makes a significant difference, though, or does the stock diameter flow well enough and just need to have less restrictive components?

I've got the Cherry Bomb glass pack installed. No drone at all, the only difference is you can hear the turbo spool up when you stand on it. :D

Save your money, straight pipe or glass packs are a good bang for the buck. Beyond that, the only real improvement you could make is to change the whole exhause to 3 inch pipe from turbo back.

If some one does this, please let me hear it!! It has been festering in my mind to cut the CC out, so might as well put a pipe the whole way. Tough to find some one to do it...$15K fine in Iowa if a shop gets cousght cutting one out. They even run stings here at diesel shops. Funny though, there are no emissions tests at all for registration in Iowa. I could do it myself from just in front of the CC back, but would be senseless to use anythiong larger than stock diameter. Anyhow, I would send a 6 pack to some one who could provide a sound clip of a "free flow" CRD exhaust.... Im hoping it would sound like a mini Cummins 8)

I had a 3" straight pipe side-exiting exhaust for a while. It sounded really good when the turbo spun down, but otherwise it sounded like a jalopy. It didn't have that Cummins growl.

I saw that on your site. Tha was what actually convinced me to cut my muffler out. I was under the impression you still had a ctalytic converter on with the 3" exhaust? No?

Far be it from me to bring the smog cops down on our heads, but for off-roading, a length of 3/4" waterpipe and a good hammer will un-matrix the soot-trap housing for freer flow-thru, if you can ascertain my meaning......................

A note of caution - if you don't like the result, that stuff's a lot easier to put back in than it was to get out.....................

Perhaps a removeable 'for off-road test purposes, only' test pipe might be more suitable, knowwhuttimean?

Yep - dunno how much a new soot-trap'll setcha back, but it must be a just a tad more than a 'test pipe' - wouldn't you think?

Hi all,

I found the Magnaflow 15870 cat-back stainless steel exhaust system for $375 shipped! You can find it at:

http://performancepeddler.com/

Add it to your cart and it will show up for $375, shipping included!

if you have to run the cat it isn't gonna make much difference what you put behind it.. it's already choked down there. i haven't really checked it out too much but iunless the system gets smaller after the exit from the cat there isn't a whole lot of sense to changin it

The muffler is 1/4" smaller then the rest of the exhaust system. OD of all pipes except muffler is 2 1/2" and muffler is 2 1/4". I don't know how much can/would be gained in the 1/4"?? I didn't look at the bends in the tail pipe for restrictions.

that's a fairly good drop in diameter not to mention what might be plugging ther works inside the muffler. i haven't got any hard numbers or rules of thumb even, for what you might gain. i can tell you i'm gonna give it a shot beforre too long

Hi folks,

From the "I'll type this in my 70F living room instead of figuring it out in my 30F garage" school of thought...

I am thinking of installing my Magnaflow SS exhaust that's been sitting in the box for a couple months now. All four of my jackstands are currently under another "project vehicle" and I can't pull them out. I do have a set of drive-up ramps though.

If I pull the CRD's rear wheels up on the ramps, is there enough room over the rear axle to pull the factory exhaust off without cutting it into pieces, and install the Magnaflow system? I was hoping to keep the factory exhaust in good shape in case I wanted to reuse it or craigslist it to someone with a rusted-out system. I was hoping to do the install with the rear end jacked up and the rear axle drooping, but I can't do that at the moment. With only ramps, the rear suspension will stay loaded. Is it still an easy swap with the rear suspension loaded, and can I still pull the factory exhaust out uncut?

Thanks!

- Chris
