Guys... I have the 545RFE 5-speed automatic tranny in my CRD. It has two overdrives. 4th gear is .78:1 and 5th gear is .67:1 I think. My question is...when I turn overdrive off by hitting the button on the shifter, does it lock out both overdrives? Or just 5th? Anybody know?? :?

I was told by my dealer that it also changes the shifting points for higher rpms between shifting. is this true?

I'm gonna say sure even though I don't know this for a fact. I only know that when I drive with my OD off that my shift points are way high. Comes in handy when I need to take off quickly from a light. :D

OK thanks for the responses. You are right, it does lock out both overdrives. I used a RPM calculator and did a test drive, and yup...sure enough when you turn OD off it goes straight to the 1:1 gear (which is 3rd on this tranny). Thanks for the help!!

OH...and yeah on my Dodge Ram the computer would alter the shift pattern with OD off, so I assume the Jeep does the same thing. Though it's hard to say.

on the 04 tranny which only has 4 gears, the only thing i can tell it does is hold the shift points to a higher rpm and lock the torque in 3rd at a lower rpm to keep the tranny cooler, kind of sucks too when ur starting from a stop.
