I didn't know Matt except for a few brief interactions here on the forums, as stated before, he was always a true gentleman. All my best to his family and friends.

I met Matt at Big Bear '07, first thing he asked me when we showed up to the discovery center "Are you here for the blue Jeep club?" He was a good guy and great to wheel with. Matt will be missed.

I think I know of a way to honor Matt.

I met Matt in Moab 2005. My very first time going off-roading. He was really nice and we had a little fun banter going on and talked about Colorado and the Air Force since he used to live here in Denver.

Matt drove his red KJ with a little green Intel doll in the front of his bumper. I am going to find one of those rare dolls (just did some searching) and will drive in Moab with one on my front bumper.

Everyone going to LOST Moab in 08 could do the same.

Found it on the Intel site:

Man I am so sorry to hear this. Matt will be missed for sure. I am in Moab right now and will run a trail just for him. You always think you have all the time in the world to do the things you would like to do but this should bring it right to the front that you just never know. Take the time to do some things you want to do and enjoy it with your family and friends. Matt always seemed to be in great health, ready to help out and always up for a run out on the trail. Take care our friend. Later...Clint

Good idea, I just bought a set of 3 on ebay.

There will be a lilmatty memorial run in Moab and KJ WEST is working on something else in his honor too.

When I first saw the thread at the top of the page, I thought it was just about LilredLibby, then I took a closer look and realized it was about Lilmatty. This is truly a shame that we have lost another valued member of our expanded family. From the tone of his posts, he seemed like someone I would have liked to meet in person. As was said, he will be missed by all. Condolences to his family.

I don't want to jinx anybody but don't these sort of things usually happen in threes? (and both of their user names started with "Lil"--kinda freaky don't ya think?)

I met Matt the first year I join Lostkjwest during the Calico run. He was fun to wheel with on the trails I always looked forward to see him and his red KJ with that green doll in his bumper. We ran steel bender last April and had blast. You will be miss by all of us.

I'm having a hard time believing this... Matty was so full of life and enthusiastic about wheeling. His was the Red Jeep that was strapping most everyone out of Steelbender last year after the rain. He threw me his keys and told me to get ready. I just thought it was so cool to be driving his Jeep and pulling as he spotted everyone up that last hill. That was Matty for you.

My condolences to his family and to all that knew him. You'll be missed brother.

Dave

Me too, just overlooked it. What a shock. My best to his family. He will be missed by you and certainly here.

That's the worst news I've gotten all year.

Some of you will remember that when my KJ was stuck in the shop during LOST Moab last year, I rode with Matt a couple of days and he actually insisted that I drive his KJ one of those days--the entire Steel Bender trail. He even encouraged me to do the Dragon's Head, which, to my knowledge, had never been done by a KJ.

I'm so glad that I was able to spend those couple of days with him in his KJ. I'm really, really going to miss him, and I didn't even know him as well as many of you.

What a terrible loss to the LOST community and, of course, to his family. My sincere condolances to them.

Actually, wasn't that Cliffhanger?

Doesn't matter--the point still remains. He made huge contributions to every ride he went on, and made them fun for everyone.

I remember running Metal Masher with Matt last year and having a discussion on life in general and then he had dinner with us. He was a great man and he will be missed sorely. I wish I could make the memorial run and do Moab this year with a green Intel doll but someone is going to have to do it for me.

Paul, your dad will be sorely missed by a great many. My condolences.
