OK for the sake of a good argument here, which we all know I like, we all buy/build/ steal/ whatever what we all call a 2.5 inch lift or there abouts so a 4 inch lift comes out and we say WHOOPEE another 1.5 inches of lift, right

Ok so reading this I find

outside of mirror/ inside of mirror/ tire heighth/ lift
joe jeeper 49 3/4- 48 3/4- 31.8- 4"
tjkj 49 9/16- 0.00 31.9- 2.5 Plus ?
mine 48 3/8- 47 1/2- 30.1- OME/HD

so if I installed a 31.9 or a 32 inch tire I would be 49 1/4 maybe or about 1/2 inch of what a 4 inch gives you or am I looking at the measurements all wrong :? :? :?
Yep pretty close to 1/4"-1/2" away.

I didnt think that there was anything I was missing but since you agreed with me I must not have LOST it all over the weekend. Now to find 4.10s and lockers from someone thats going SFA

I just measured mine and got 48 1/2" from the same point I think tjkj2002 measured.

That is why I wanted the "measurement"...I just have the OME HD lift with 29.84" tires and I am at 47 7/8" at the outside edge of the mirror. With 235/85/16s I would be close to 49 5/8" or so. I don't really think they have a true 4" Lift without adding in tires. You just can not do it with out relocating the UCA's and dropping the front diff at least.

Very interesting  thinking of the guy on Laugh In never mind too long ago   , but it is interesting when you see actual measurements. I was thinking if it was a true 4 inch then I would be up another 1.5 inches or so with the tires I have now, but I guess not so whats the advantage to it? Maybe a little bit more articulation?

Don't know if this has been addressed yet or not, but in all honesty, I am too lazy and don't have the time to look at all 8 pages to find out ahahah...

They mention... cutting 3/8" off the CV joints?!

WTF!?!! I don't think you want to be doing that. Just to start, your warranty (if you have any) is GONE!!! ZERO, ZILCH! My wife is a warranty administrator for DC and she wouldn't even look at you next time you came in wth that. Second, there goes the srength and integrity of the joint. That is only the beginning. Don't do it!!

Stick with the 2.5" and do a lil' clevis lift or something. Do not waste your money!!!! Or, do and then waste a bunch more fixing everything out of your own pocket

Some of us have been out of warranty for over 3 years. :D There's a certain amount of freedom in that, especially if your KJ is paid off. You can spend the monthly payments on fixing what you break.

Could you elaborate on that? I don't even understand what they mean by cutting the joints--I wish they'd put some pics on the site. Have you seen what they did? In what way does it weaken the joint?

The CV Shave I believe means they shave the inside metal surface of the CV Shaft. This puts the end of the CV Shaft a bit deeper into the front diff arm. What this does is allow the CV Axle to travel farther when the suspension moves without popping out...

It really doesn't weaken the CVJoint itself. It still does not address CVJoint Angles with a lift but it would let the CV Axle travel a bit more.

Here is what I got from Marlin when asked about the mod.

http://www.automedia.com/CV_Rehab/ccr20021101cv/1

Go to the exploded view 1/4 way down the page.

Look at item #9 the side facing you that the boot covers needs to be 3/8” shorter.

I'm thinking maybe the binding is due to contact between #9 and #6. If #9 is shorter, but the pivot point stays the same, the angle should be slightly greater before contact occurs between the two. See below.

I'm no expert and would love to hear a better explaination.

OK.. I had to measure the height of the KJ mirror and came out with a outstanding resultt of 47 7/8's and I'm running 235/75/16's which measure 29.8"'s (roughly). Now compared to the rest of the previous measured i think this OME lift really stacks up against the rest in the height department. My tires are also 2" 's samller then the 235/85/16's which would give me probably another 1" or so in height so i would be right around 48 7/8". Now my articulation may not be the same as this new " 4" " lift but for the majority of us on this board that extra $$$$ really wouldn't be benificial. My $0.02's!

I do live "out west." My advice: get a locker (or 2) and call it a day.

For those who have invested in Lifting already this may not be for you, for example I have $3,900.00 invested already in my lift and tires because I first invested in a 2" then went to 4".
From stock however this is how the measurement goes:
Grd to Frt Wheel well stock-31 1/8 lift-36 3/4 = 5 5/8" higher
Grd to Rr Wheel well stock-31 3/4 lift-37 = 5 1/4" higher
Grd to Center Mirror stock-44 lift-49 1/2 = 5 1/2" higher

If your already pretty high like I've been reading this isn't an advantage but I wish it would of been available when I was stock!

Joe

That's exactly what Dan at Jeff Daniels Jeep Customizing showed me and why he cut off 3/8" of the tube. At full droop in the front my axle doesn't hit the tube. Joe :D

Just checked ground clearance: to bottom of front skid = 11 1/2"
to bottom of rear diff. = 9"
I have worn some of the tread off my MTR's I believe when first done it was closer to 12" and 9 1/2", I wish that was better that's why I'd like to go to 33" or 34" tires in the future among other $1,000's of dollars worth of stuff my better half isn't approving of for the moment!
Joe :(
