Lift question, AGAIN

ARB Bull Bar, Stock 07 Limited. No winch and no plans, I think, to add one cuz I don't plan to get stuck. If I do, I will have a winch with Syntetic line, less weight.

Back to the issue.

ARB bull bar, no winch. OME suspension upgrade. Medium or heavy front end? Will I need any of these clevis lift do dads?

If I go with the Heavy and no winch, are the issues with the fron suspension being TOO stiff?

Opinion, facts and what ever please.

I have an ARB, no winch and Heavy Dutys ride out on the road is great not too stiff for me, Sean150 has rode in it and he can tell you how it rides in regards to his Rustys if that helps. ARB I think recommends the HDs as a matter of fact. Like I said it rides good, no droop, flexes well ( see pics in the Midwest site under Livingston Pics) easy to spot only ARB :wink:

You can do a clevis for a little extra but not needed, with out I think you may still have a little tilt forward like stock but again not needed. So whens the lift party?? :wink:

I knew that was coming the lift part question that is.

OME and ARB recomend the medium for a bull bar and NO winch and the heavy for the full set up. They seam to imply that it is important to them that you do it that way. I do not see the need to buy a new set of springs if i find a deal on a winch. Personally, I don't think I will ever need one. When i wheel it is always with someone who has some sort of recoverey set-up. I will not however say that i will NEVER get one.

That is why I am asking about ARB's and OME's recomendation to use the medium with the set-up i am planning.

Well I wanted a good heavy duty set up and plus if like you I ever find a killer deal on a winch I am ready if not I still like the ride!

Just ask the source...
We suggest the medium duty 926's with no winch for the best possible ride and to maintain steering/clearance angles.
You could run the 927's... but we don't suggest it because by OME standards, they ride a little stiff without the 80-100#'s the winch adds to the nose and our suspension engineers don't like how high it gets in relation to the Ball Joints and Arm contact without the extra weight on it. KJ's are picky about how high you lift them.. ball joints don't like it. By pounding down the pinch weld in the wheel well and running our Bull Bar, you can run a 245 tire with no rubbing. That's about as big as you can go.

By running what we perscribe, you get the best ride with the most articulation possible out of the set up. Tinkering with it will net more lift, but you'll sacrifice ride and down travel in the process without any real gain.

Make sense?

Was hoping you wouldweigh in on this also. Since I saw your KJ on ebay i thought you bailed on us.

So Option One: Bull Bar with weights (until I get a winch, If I get a winch) and the HD springs
Option 2: Bull Bar and MD springs. and wheel with other who have winches.

Sounds good to me.

i have the arb with ome hd's in front ( no winch YET - got one on the way ) and it really doesnt ride that much stiffer from what i can tell. i run 265/75's on moabs for street tires, and there is no way i could wheen with those, you lose to much articulation, no room to stuff the tire. using cragar soft 8's with 31/10.50 bfg's are perfect with plenty of room for stuffing.

jasonk I am with ya on the ride, I would not want my any softer, out on the highway its as smooth as Kentucky shine, :wink:

on the trails it flexes good, ride is even good there as well. If something happened to this one first thing I would do is order up a set of OME HDs for the new one! Of course most people like a cushy ride so thats maybe why they say to go mediums

I guess 25 lbs is not that much but....if Seth says mediums then he should know, right Seth :wink:

I had OME mediums up front with a bull bar (front half of a Rockfather 2 lift) for a couple of years, but upgraded because the front was starting to lower slightly. Now I have the HDs with just the bull bar (no winch yet) and I really like the ride a LOT. Much better than the mediums, IMO.

I'm running the mediums up front without a winch or aftermarket bumper and i really like the ride.They probaly are a bit stiffer then the light springs but they also won't sag like the light springs probably would. I agree with tom and go with the HD's with the ARB bumper, you never know when you will get a sweet deal on a winch plus the ride quality won't be bad by no means.

Many people run the HD springs with the stock bumper, so it shouldnt be a problem with the HD springs with the bumper. I had the MED springs with the stock bumper and only got 1.5in of lift. 2.5 with the Rustys front springs.

Like Jason says (although he gets stuck a lot, so you gotta question the source

) you can run the 927's with no winch... it's just a little stiffer than we like, and it'll lift it a little taller which isn't exactly kosher for your angles. It won't break anything, it won't ride like hammered crap... it just won't be a dialed in, guaranteed to be better than stock Old Man Emu lift.. some guys like it like that... some guys like fat chics too...

And I think I'm keeping the Beast, FYI... I'm meeting with the guys from Burnsville Off Road from MN while I'm at SEMA next week to talk about a V8 swap. I don't think a 5.7 will fit, but a 4.7 will.... Zoom Zoom, mofos!

I agree with the fat chic part. I don't mind the stiffer ride, but i wont need the HD springs cuz my wife is 5' nothing and all of MAYBE 120 lbs soaking... Well we will just leave it at that. This is a family forum.

anyway, I will not turn down a deal on a winch so I am torn, HD or MD?

If I go with MD's and get a wichch with Synthetic lines and a plate fairlead, say one of the 8,000 warn, how bad will that make the front sag. Can that winch with synthetis lines weigh that much?

Swap a built 4.7 V8 in it. Or see if you can get hold of one of the new one's. 290 hp and 320 lb-ft torque would help a lot.
