My 05 CRD threw a CEL code Crank sensor. The Dealer was told from the Star center to Hot Wire the crank sensor to the wiring harness at the plug near the ECM. So I have this wire draped over the top of the motor and down one side. The crank sensor is located kind of forward and above the oil filter, so the run is sort of long. This happened several months ago but as I was picking it up last week for the torque converter recall I asked him about it. His reply was that they were doing it as a test, to see if it fixed the problem. My response was, It did but I want a new wire harness. He said I'll find out. Has anyone out there had this type of issue? Interesting enough.....the crank sensor was replaced....the car would not start when I attempted to pick it up.....they brought it in....hot wired the sensor...burnt out the computer.....4 weeks later i get it back (ECM Backordered 6 weeks)...2 days later still would not start....and then the whole fuel head issue was fixed. I'm laughing to myself because they said they replaced the pump in the fuel tank and it fixed it. Yeah right....I just smile and say Ok ... I don't want them to know, Thanks to you guys, I know more about this thing than they do!!!

That was a little more than hard to follow.

Wow - bad CPS - replaced, no fixee - fry ECM during attempted fix - replaced ECM - now gotta hi-speed test wire acrost the motor and it runs good - but only after replacing the in-tank lift pump because of a false symptom from the fuel manager head.

Is that about right?

Give'em a complimentary one-year subscription to L.O.S.T. KJ's forum, see if that helps.

Any chance that there is a class (generic, design) problem with the in-tank fuel-pickup and gauge sending unit that is (ultimately) associated with air entering the fuel system?

Good point  Gassers have a pump on the assemblie as do the revious 2.5L VM's :!: We're the only ones that don't have a pump in the tank  Maybe we'll get one when the air in the fuel head thing is worked out

I found this on a different thread - so it's a possibility to be considered if you can't find the source of an apparent leak...

That was just the beginning of a long story..which I wont get into right now...but I will say the crd needed a turbo at 500 miles.....then the ECT (red lightning bolt kind of look) light left side of dash kept coming on...which practically means "you better park me"....throttle fault code...then later the engine light flashing....running erradic...etc.. Then it thought it was 40 below zero..Temp sensor...OK I'll stop for now but back to harness.....I take it no one else has had this hot wire running to the crank sensor........and GMCTD what gives with high speed hot wire... And."no" to all the rest of ya it didn't make it faster LOL.

I'm always roasting the Jeep techs, but ya gotta pity 'em - they throw a bunch of un-armed techs in the pit with a CRD predator, then expect at least one of the techs to survive and come out on top.

That's all tongue-in-cheek stuff - however, I was dead serious about turning them on to L.O.S.T. KJ's CRD forum - no reason why they shouldn't be allowed access to some real troubleshooting help - this place has a wealth of that, fer sure - any problem they got has been seen and fixed, here........

FYI - I'm a Moderator on one of the two primo GM forums, and a long-term member of the other of the two - we get GM techs and service managers posting for help, as well as managers and techs from independent Diesel Injection repair centers - it's really a big deal, as most new members are refugees from mis-diagnosis in service bays, dealer and independent - look around you, here: how many new members come aboard with established problems, and how many just for the camaraderie and esprit de corps?

Sign 'em up everywhere you go - couldn't hurt - probably will help.

Now, I'm gonna stow my soapbox and hit the rainlocker, then time to hit the sack.........................

My hat is fer ya GMCTD. To be straight up...if it wasn't for people like you and this board I just could not take the BS this vehicle has put me through, and it would be gone...at any cost. But I have hope to keep this be baby going for the next 100k plus. Kind of a funny story how I found this board.......The last time it was ready for pick-up from a 30 day service (ECM/Fuel head) I went over there with my spare key...figured I'd pull the fuse for the in tank fuel pump (not) run her oughta fuel...and say hey she won't start...........lemon law..........Long story short....I could not make this happen without pulling hoses...so I gave up...not feeling right about all this. Found the board looking for a better electrical schematic of the fuse panel. Next thing ya know, I'm up till 4am reading all the post's........with a new hope for a troublesome Great vehicle. It is really Ironic. Jeep should have the lost kj website on their...Owner's manual. Now I'm actually for another one.
