I'm narrowing my choices down to the Nokia, Firestone, and Cooper. The size....235/75 or 245/70 is still up in the air as I can see some benifits both ways. A little more ground clearance and speedo correction with the 235/70 leads me in that direction.

I wish that there were some good Nokia internet sales sites as the best price I can find is ~130.00 each while the Firestones go for $93.00 at tire rack. Coopers run the same but I think I can get free shipping.

My off-road driving is typically in shale rock, hills, ruts, and sand. Very little to no mud but my new place in MT has a fairly steep gravel drive that I'm sure will be a bit slippery during the winter.

I heard or read that cooper tires manufactures the USA side of Nokian tires...to their specs and with their proprietary compounds. I would have to think if you have a cooper dealer in your area, that they could secure some Nokians for you. I'm not 100% on that, but IIRC I feel like I read that. Might be worth a call to your local cooper dealer.

I run these in the winter. 225/75. Great all-around tire. Does well in snow and quiet on the highway.
I lost a case of beer over keeping these tires!

I was looking into the Revos before last Winter, then my tire guy suggested the Cooper Discoverer ATRs.
He said alot of the guys were running them on their pickups up here in NE PA.
Snow, mud, and driving into the stone quarries (flag stone-sharp stuff).
He also said they had a real tuff casing, and were quiet on the highway.
Priced right too, $104 out the door, including mounting, balancing, etc. IIRC, a 50K or 60K prorated warranty.
He suggested that I try them, and if I don't like them he would take them back, period.
But if I keep them, I owe him a case of beer.

This past Spring I brought him a case of Yuengling Lager.

This is how I like to do business!

I am very happy with my 235/75/16 Destination AT's overall... I am a little concerned about the slight rubbing, as here in Oregon during the winter we often have chain requirements put in place by the highway patrol when driving over the mountain passes. Any suggestions on how best to address this? Slightly larger bump stops on the rear, and heat gun on the plastic firewall up front? Just break down and do the Revtek spacer lift?

With the lift, I'm a little concerned about vehicle stability on the highway when towing, and about ride.

Great story. Cooper is really a sleeper amongst ATR tires. Most folks use Tire Rack as the definitive authority on tires and don't realize that they only rate tires they sell. I put them on my GC because of the tough sidewalls..we have a lot of sharp shale rock and cactus thorns (yep, they go right through tires) and it's murder on tires. The off-road traction with the ATR's is fantastic but I have no experience with them in snow. Reckon I'll stick with these now that good reports are coming in on the snow and ice performace.

one thing to remember as you look at the chart in this link. Look at all the mileage driven in respect to the review rating. For example , the Geolander ATS has only 360,000+ miles in ALL reviews submitted, while the Bridgestone Revo has a high rating with almost 50 MILLION miles tested for the reviews. That's a night and day comparison, so take those HIGH ranked reviews with a grain of salt because the amount of mileage tested indicates that the tires have either been moderately reviewd, or like the Revos, have been driven exponentially more. The BFG KO is the ONLY one that has more mileage test at about 57 MILLION miles...yes that million! most others are barely scratching a couple million miles with many of the highest rated ones with a few hundred thousand miles...not enough to make an informed decision IMO. it is a big difference! just a heads up

I was looking into purchasing cooper ATR tires originally... and half the shops locally refused to install them or even sell them to me for my CRD. They said the sidewalls were too thick for a jeep and they are designed for towing trucks. I ended up going with BFG All-terrain tires instead. I love them... but they're a little pricy.

I bought my jeep used and was lucky, it already had a Revtek lift and Spidertrax spacers with stock wheels/tires. It road fine and I had no issues with stability and/or safety. I think the spacers helped a lot buy widening the stance… just my thoughts....

Hope this helps!
Chris

I ordered my new tires and they're on the way. Got 235/75/16 Cooper Discovery ATR's for $440.00 delivered from Mavis tire. This is the second set I've bought from them and they are great to do business with. The tires should show up on the 1st and I'll run them over to Wal-Mart for installation.

I'm in love with the definity AT 245/70s I bought from pep boys a couple of weeks ago. Quiet on the Highway and tough on the trail with no rubbing anywhere. They are made by cooper and only cost $125 per tire and the fourth is free.

I picked up tires yesterday for the CRD, Kelly Safari Trex in stock size. They have new thread design that quiet on the highway and can handle off road if needed.

I have a set of the Goodyear MT/R's stock size 225/75R16 and love 'em. I put them on for playing in the summer, and leave them on all winter. They do so well in snow and ice that you won't realize how bad the roads are (drove to work one morning and thought everything was fine until I fell down in the parking lot after taking one step - everything was coated with ice...).

They rub slightly in the front at full lock (that's due to the zero offset wheels) and the rears will rub at full jounce - that's due to no bump stops...

Only two downs I've found are noise and mileage. Approximately 1.5 mpg loss due to the creation of all that noise. (Some, however, might argue that Jeeps are supposed to sound like that.)
