I've been told that 15" wheels fit a KJ if you get the correct backspacing, but it looks like no way to me due to caliper clearance.

anyone here try this?

Some 15" steel rims will clear, there are a few on the borad that run them. The black crawler rims and soft 8 style steel rims will work(4"-4.75" BS I think) with about 1-2mm of clearence.

check out the tiressection lots of posts on there to read through. Some aftermarket steel 15 inchers will, stock 15 inch Jeep wheels will not but lots of reading on there

Hi, you are correct! The problem lies with the wheels fitting over the brake calipers. From what I've been told, there are only 1 or 2 brands that will fit in 15", but I can't remember what they are. Maybe (probably) someone else can shed some light on that. :)

Stay with the 16" wheels if you can, it makes it easier - it was for me anyway...

I have said it several times but will say it again
stock 15's from any other jeep will not work
I have found both caliper AND outter tie rod ball joint contact
If you find steelies that fit you WILL have rubbing issues both front and rear
more so then with the same size tire on the OE wheels

Keep the OE wheels and buy the tires that fit them
You can run bigger tires on the OE wheels with the same amount of lift compaired to 15" steelies

I am now running 15's on my 2004 petrol with 31/10.5/15's Mickey Thompson MTZ's. I went for 15x7's with zero offsett, they clear the calipers, and being 7in wide I can turn full lock left or right with no contact on either rear of the wheel well (I have bashed down my pinch welds) or the sway bar. The tyres are exactly the same overall diameter as my old Cooper Discover's STT's (245/75/16's) so my speedo calibation has not altered. All the tyre tread is under the guards, with just a bit of side wall showing, and the vehicle articulates just as well as it did with the 16's.

At this point I'm very impressed, the comfort and ride is great. I'm going out this weekend to give them a real work out, then I'll post up some pics.

Oh. PS....this is very hush hush as no-one here in Australia knows I have them yet so don't let the cat out of the bag :P

I'm running 15x8 Black Steel Rockcrawlers with 3.75" backspacing. Pinch welds have been taken care of and they fit fine. Absolutely ZERO problems on my lifted KJ.
