I got stock tires still but I just had new wheels put on and I had them rotated so thats not it. The noise was there before the new wheels so its not that either.

When you lift a KJ you do not change the front driveshaft angles, not any, zero degrees since the front diff is fixed in place. Now if you did a cradle drop then yes you will change the angles.

That is what I thought but wasn't sure.

You do change the rear driveshaft angles though, and since our KJ's have sealed u-joints(non greaseable) then it is possible that they can go bad depending on how you offroad and take care of your KJ(ie washing the under carraige at least once a week) very fast,if you live in a area that uses salt in the winter they will go bad faster.

Im pretty sure that is coming from the front cause that is where I hear it at. Also when hand is on center console I don't feel anything.

tjkj2002 wrote:
Also on the rear shaft is a vibration damper(like the one on the engines cranksahaft) that could be dry roiting and/or not balanced correctly anymore. The KJ "balls" that is on the rear diff is there to control rear driveline vibrations also. And don't forget that a weight on the F or R driveshaft could have come off also.

Checked the weights and u joints in the back and front the other day, everything looked goos as far as i know.

But since you are having rotanional noises I would check the front unit bearings,CV's,and front driveshaft CV's for any slop or binding.Don't forget that a little out of alignment can also cause some noises at certain speeds also. Then there is the possibility of the t-case causing the noises,it can happen, low fluid, stretched chain, worn bearings, worn oil pump, shift linkage not adjusted properly, and may need to grease the rear output splines. But don't forget about the front diff, worn bearings, low fluid, and such can cause the front diff to make noises also.

Well Like I mentioned earlier in the post I did think that it started doing it after I took it to the dealer to get alignment done but it was too long ago and Im not for sure. So it could be just bad alignment. What else makes me think that is I added another ring to my clevis lift past weekend to make it two and the noise got a little louder. As I remember if you take the suspension apart you have to get it aligned so alignment is still messed up. If the dealer did not do the alignment right the first time that means it was off the whole time and also now after adding another ring. I just hope that is the fix for the problem. I will try to find another alignment shop and get it aligned again. But serioulsy whats the chance its bad alignment that is making that humming noise at 45mph to 50mph only? and if the jeep is not alignmed what would cause it to make noise?

Very good chance since your front tires may be being pushed instead of rolling,to much toe-in from adding lift, and the camber being off also makes the tires not sit flush to the road surface,so your front tires are sitting at a funky tilt and not pointed straight forward so your pushing the tires instead of them rolling(in a sense). Also the road surface type makes a big difference also, asphalt will make alot of tires howl between those speeds.

I know my alignment is good and I have a real load howling between 40-55mph,but that just my MT's singing to me,gets way loader when I'm right next to K-barriers.That's most likely the noises from others running BFG AT's or any type of MT tires.

How to tell if the front half-shaft CVs are bad?
Also the noise got louder after another ring on the clevis lift, what would change that would make it make noise by adding that ring?

Are they clicking while turning? If not thet are most likely good, though you can grab them and wiggle the center shaft(inbetween the 2 CV joints) to see if there is any play, there should be no side-to-side play.

By adding a extra ring for the clevis lift you increased to front end lift and put the camber and toe-in/toe-out out of specs.Since you stated the alignment was off to begin with now you just made it worse.Get a good alignment and see if the noise goes away first.

the rotational noise only shows up when rolling to a stop/ light or gradualy taking off from a dead stop

ive had this same issue for a couple of months.

it sounds like the front brake shoes are worn down to the rivets and is grinding to a stop. i had all brakes checked and actually had the rear ones replaced, but the fronts looked to be 70%, so not sure what the grinding noise is. sometimes its worse than others. im gonna have it checked out by the stealership, hopefully they can find whats wrong and its covererd under the powertrain warranty.

Warped rotors and improperly lubed calipher slide pins(not allowing the pads to disengage the rotor fast enough) can cause that type of noise also.Or a misadjusted parking brake can make that noise too.
