Yes, I am well aware of the groupbuy perils, the terms will be money up front, theres no way in hell I am spending potentially $1000 of my own money not to have people pay me.

Ordinarily I'd be hesitant based on the $200 price. That seems steep for a few feet of hose, custom bent or not. However, I'm pretty impressed that Samco was as responsive as they apparently were, and that's worth some money to me. I'd love to see it come down $50 or so, but if I can swing the money when the group buy comes along, I'm in.

Loco,

Are you saying that you expected to organize 35% more buyers, or that 35% who ordered never paid up?

So, how much are you out on the SERG kit project, in dollars?

Bill

Luckily for me, I was able to purchase a SEGR kit from LOCO because one or some of you didn't
pay. Ufo is still working on the solder but soon as I get it, Bang.
As far as the Samco hoses, if they fit, I have no problem with money up front. I wouldn't want to be stuck
with $1000 worth of hoses in the garage either.
So, I say, for all that want it, lets put the package together

The group buy will not be from samco, but rather a vendor, so if it is a US vendor then they may or may not be willing to ship overseas, hopefully they will be for the relatively small numbers of overseas sales.

Well, lets see. I just had 3 more people who I have been pinging for several weeks get back to me a say, "Oh yeah I changed my mind" or "I didn't know you would really do it" or "After looking at the pics it looks too hard, nevermind" So I now have 8+ on hand from dudes who option 4ed me. Bringing the number scarily close to 35% non follow though. If I can sell them at the advertised price I'll be even with parts cost, shipping and $ dished out to my kids to get the kits together. I'm sure once the word gets out again how much everyone who has installed theirs likes them I'll getem sold. I have even thought about doing a couple of them up complete ready to splice into the Jeep wiring for additional $. Sorry for the rant, just needed to let it out.

I think some are afraid of cutting into the factory wiring harness. Once gmctd does his second install (mine was first) with pics, people will see it is not rocket science.

Also, for this group buy, we probably need an exact price based on some minimum sized order before we start judging about people committing to the buy.

Not to pee in the punch bowl here but the last hose I bought from the dealer was only $110. (The hose from the intercooler to the AFC valve).
I will NOT do another hose again! For $25 I can buy some 3" or 2 3/4" "U" bends and I will make a steel replacement that can handle at least 100 PSI and any oil will only preserve it. This problem will be permanently fixed!
Also if anyone thinks that the air will get heated up because it is steel needs to do a little math. As fast as the air is moving through that pipe, I figure it is only in there about 8 ms. Not enough time to raise it 1 degree. Not a problem.

Anyone with any connections with a header shop with a mandrel bender should go get us some quotes. Would be cheaper than hose and would not require any welding....

A custom bent pipe would not be very cheap. Mandrel bent U-bends are $30 - $40 and those are mass produced. You still need silicone couplings to attach the ends. I'm sure I could cobble something as well, just using cut sections of mandrel bends and couplings -- I have lots of scrap from when I plumbed in an intercooler in my 280Z. Not sure I want to spend the time though, even though it might only cost me $100.

I might just do that if we don't get the order going, but only if one bursts. One thing I will NOT do is pay the dealer for an OEM piece.

Agreed, I really just wanted to get a rough headcount of who wanted in. It cannot hold anyone to anything when we don't know numbers.

FYI.. you can go to http://www.siliconeintakes.com and buy the hoses and bends yourself.. I don't know how much the total would be though.. for all the bends, etc. I've used them in the past for other cars.. great quality. I would prefer to purchase a single, solid silicone hose though.. i.e. samco.

Cobbling replacements together out of pipe and silicone boots can get expensive too.

Found this website, pegasusautoracing.com , where they have silicone hose, elbows, and boots. One 90 degree 2" silicone elbow will run you around $35, a length of 2" silicone hose will run over $100.

Since our system puts out 20 psi max, I'd thought of simply using muffler pipe, bent to the appropriate shape, with a silicone hose at each end. My thinking was that it would probably be cheaper getting exhaust pipe bent to the right shape than some other type of tubing.

I'd have to put myself down as undecided right now, until I can do a little more checking and we get a better idea of the final price of the Samco hoses.

Just a FYI: siliconeintakes.com sells 90 degree 2" black elbows for $16.99 and 2 feet of 2" black silicone straight tubing for $44.99. Much cheaper than other sites.
