Hi, all,

I'm going to try installing a Carter P74029 solenoid pump as a lift pump. I'm wondering what other people are using as a prefilter before this. Obviously it'd be nice to have something as fine as a CAT 2 micron back there, but that seems a little impractical. The Carter site doesn't have any kind of specs on what is required at all.

I plan on using a glass bodied inline filter with replaceable elements. I've run one on my Mercedes for three years on all mixes of fuels, including straight biodiesel, with no issues at all.

Autozone has it for about $10 with replacement elements for about $3.

I use the same as UFO but it's a pureolator with 3/8 nipples on the ends. The element on the inside changes or cleans the same way.

Me three. Got it at autozone, clear body, comes with a bunch of nipple sizes, install the one that's your hose size. I got some spare filter inserts to keep in the trunk.

Anyone know how finely (microns, mesh, ?) they filter?

I never liked that filter. Had problems with them leaking. Maybe they have
getten better though. I will be using a cheap clear plastic one.

I don't see why yours leak, the replacement filter kits comes with new internal filter and end cap washers. It is cheaper than the cheap clear plastic one in the long run and more compatible with diesel.
