I've been lurking here for a while and joined the forum the other day, finally. I've struggled a bit with the search function here but always try that option first before asking a question. Anyway...

Thank you fdezone for posting the variety of lift kits for all to see.

My situation is that I can't afford to go wrong on a lift kit purchase... It's not a money thing, it's a wife thing! It's her everyday vehicle so it's got to be reliable, "smooth" riding (relatively speaking), long lastling qualitity pieces, etc. When I started my search for a lift kit I figured 2" would be all that I'd wanted/needed but finding 2 1/2" is really popular. I found this site too! I'm looking to purchase springs, shocks, struts, etc. Her (Amy's) Jeep is still wearing all the OE pieces and tires, it's time to upgade. I am also looking at the MOAB Ebay knock-off and Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 245/75R16's as an added piece of info.

What I need to ask is subject to opinion but, I looking for recommendations on a quality kit and quality customer service. Who makes the best kit for my given criteria?

If you guys/gals need information, ask me. I gotta start somewhere.

Thanks,
Clark

mostly everyone will say OME (Old Man Emu) is the best and some say that it actually rides better, that the lift Im getting and but Im going to use Rancho shocks and struts but OME is a step up but they are also more expensive

--My Lift Plan--
OME HD Front Coils-$100 set
OME HD Rear Coils-$120 set
Rancho Front Struts-$95 ea.
Rancho Rear Shocks-$50 ea.
clevis lift-$2

for a total of roughly $575 with shipping

Oh, one other question I just thought of... Because of the increased height I'm talking about, I measured the height of our garage door at home, I even went to the wife's work and checked out (measured) the underground parking situation. Are the luggage rails on top easily removed? Are there "blanking plates" available? <I know, crap>

Thanks again for any info.

yes they are very easy to remove you just need to pop off the cover and you will see 2 bolts in the front and 2 in the rear on each side

you are in my steps
I was in this same spot just about a year ago
wifes '03 needed shocks/struts and tires were not far off
I took a leap of faith and got OME springs ,med. duty, and OME shocks
with rancho struts
Great ride ,better than stock
it is higher but not bad
Now on to the "mistake" I made
I got a GREAT deal on some 245/75 MTR's ,$50 a tire for 2 w/0 miles ,2 with ~5K and 1 8-10K
they are loud and hum and she is not "impressed" but she also knows we saved $500+ on tires so it is OK
I say get the OME stuff but if she will have the slightest issue with noise then nothing more than an AT

If money isn't an issue for the lift and you really want to do it right, get the Frankenlift II Premium with the OME's all around. Get a set of Al's upper control arms, and an extra set of upper spring isolators for the rear. Get the Silent Armors in a 245/75R16 load range C. Those Ebay replicas look like a rather good deal. You're probably looking at about $3k for everything. It will actually ride and handle extremely well for a lifted Jeep. Hard to believe how it rides with the much more aggressive look. I always find myself looking for stock KJ's to park next to now.

Depends on the budget for everything but everyone knows what I will say  either go Frankenlift or OMEs with either OME shocks / struts or Ranchos
I have the OMEs Heavy Duty with Ranchos but if you are not going with a heavier bumper then go mediums all the way! Wont be disappointed!
Dont know what your garage heighth is but mine I have about 2 inches above the rack, also any parking garage I have a inch or so....and I have a 4 inch rack on top as well
Some will say buy Rustys but OME is so much better and no more expensive

I think Frankenlift would be a bit high for his wife and especially parking underground with a roof rack. I would go OME all the way around. I think Frankenlift would be an overkill for you to tell you the truth and it costs more.

he wants smooth ride, and was happy with 2", but maybe 2.5" due to popularity. sounds like OME Med. Duty is the obvious choice. Frankenlift is only worth it if your really want to push it high, and there are a lot of issues that go along with it. he can save on the al's arms by not buying the frakie.

I'd go with the OME. Your wife should be able to fit in most garages with that and just the roof rails. However taking off the rails is really easy, just four 8mm bolts per side. I don't know of any plates that cover the area but I would put the bolts back into the holes.

Okay, first off... Thanks for the responses, keep them coming! Great information and therein lays the rub... now I'm a little confused. Isn't the Frankenlift kits assembled with OME components and Rancho as an another option? The A-arms are great [I'm sure] but out of the budget currently, perhaps after the first of the year...?

Don't need the 3" lift... although cool.
Medium duty bla bla bla is where I need to be... (I think, after looking at the spring rates)
With the rack on top, it'll fit in the garage at home... The wife's garage parking at work is a bit snug with the rack - 77" clearance height
Tires... not skimping there - got to make it a pleasurable driving experience.

Frankenlifts are built with OME Heavy Dutys and different top plate to give the extra lift.
Now if you want a great ride go the Medium Duty OMEs and either OME shocks/struts or go with the Ranchos as they do great as well!
Tires any good A/T will work well I ran Firestone Destination A/Ts for over 40000 and still had a lot of running in them, liked them a lot in snow etc . With the lift you can go up to a 245/75 and not have to do much more, such as cutting the inner fenders etc. just pound over the pinch weld or go with say a 245-70 and nothing at all else to do. Goodyear Silent Armour is also a great all around tire, If you only are driving to and from work etc may want to stay with 6 ply and under as getting into anything else will be a lot heavier, cut down the mileage etc

tom,

what all have you done on your OME lift to get it up to 2.5 or whatever height you're at?

Hey Jon,

All that I have done is the Heavy Duty springs and a clevis, actually only about the same as 2 or 3 rings, rear nothing but the stock pads and springs
Why do I look funny going down the road, Or I mean does the Liberty look funny, I already know I do

The Frankenlift also has spacers up front with an integrated bumpstop for the UBJ. The struts come pre-assembled so you don't need a spring compressor. Kit also includes a daystar bumpstop in the rear. Like Tom said a daystar strut plate is included as well. Mainly just a few different things, some options between shocks and struts. Rancho or OME. Basically the Frankenlift is a combination of products from various manufacturers assembled with the best lift/articulation for the KJ in mind. It's not for everyone.
