 Post subject: what lift would be best for me

i have an 02. it is the pre-lowered i guess. built in May of 01. so i was thinking i might not want to go as high as some kits will take it. i'm not planning on going offroad and flexing it out or anything. it will just be a daily driver. i want to fit a pair of 245-75-16 AT's. thanks in advance. I dont really want to spend over about $600, shipped.

You could go with the Old Man Emu medium duty coils and rancho shocks and struts. I've seen it recommended on here a few times. Total cost should be around $575. It will give you about 2" of lift.

I agree
This is about the best route for a DD
Least amount of problems if any at all

bottom line BB's on a KJ 99% of the time cause problems save your self the head ache and avoid them

i said i was looking to spend $600, thats not a very budgety bb. :lol: actually, i dont want to go the bb route at all. dont get me wrong. im not looking to spend a bazillion dollars (frankenlift), but i dont want something that will lead to more expensive problems down the road. thats why i want to replace shocks struts and stuff now, while i am prepared to do it. i was reading on another thread a little bit ago about rancho and OME components. anyone have the best places (and part #'s) to get these parts from off the top of their head? i didnt know if mine being prolowered would be tipsy ot not with a lift?

Pre-lowered has nothing to do with it. Once you add a lift you will be the same as everyone else with the same lift. The only difference was the springs.

Check AllJs for springs, RRO also did have OME springs, Summit Racing sometimes has sales and free shipping on Ranchos, also AllJs for Ranchos as well
OMEs are the way to go for the long run. Should be able to get everything under your 600 bucks easy

Dang guys, here I thought I had figured out what I was going to do. Argh! Remember [and be kind to me] I'm a newbie too. LOL.

I had started a thread "Available Liberty Lift, one step further" and had PM'd a couple of you and it sounds like buying pieces individually from various suppliers is certainly cheaper $$$wise the way to go. I was just going to buying from a single source supplier, say from Boulderbars and do the Frankenlift... Now I see PaU-MWolverine's post with ok4wd.com kit (that's easy) but it comes w/o all the trinket stuff that the Frankenlift comes with <my head is hurting now, chuckling>

So, here is where I'm at... I'm 98.6% <snicker> sure that I want the OME shock, OME struts, and the OME MD springs f&r. Now can you help me clarify what some of these little parts are and is there added value in getting them - strut mounts/top plate, front/rear isolators, bump stops, etc. Can you purchase, like, an "installation kit"? I also what to make sure everything is compatible.

From what I gather...
The "bump stops" are just that, the rubber stops mounted on the f&r suspension.
Strut mounts/top plates...? More lift? Relocating the top of the strut for more tire clearance? Dunno.
F&R isolators... "rubber" donut thingys for you spring mounts? Do they also increase lift? Mandatory? Dunno.

Ultimately, I like to save a buck like the next guy so that I can take my woman out for a nice dinner but I want to make sure that I get all the things that make the install go smoothly. I can't afford to start the install only to have to order another part and wait three additional days... the wife will kill me.

The main advantage to the Franie over just OME components is that they add a spacer for some extra lift and the front struts come assembled
I do not really see the value in the extra lift and the add preload on the springs
with the frankie or just the OME stuff you can still only comfortably run 245/75's on OE wheels
yes with the Frankie you can stuff 265/75's but you will WAY more than just rear bump stop spacers
wich you need with any lift to run 245/75's
I ordered what you see posted and paid a shop to install and get it alligned
wich it needs again ,stupid bad streets in south Louisiana
some are as bad as some of the easier trails we run

OK Clark, you know we are just trying to keep you confused! :lol: But I bought 4 springs, 2 struts and 2 shocks thats it nothing else. The isolaters will give you more lift in the rear but not needed, on the front the top plates you can use the stock ones. Frankenlifts uses daystar ones for more lift, also they have to use a bumpstop on the front due to....the extra lift. and on and on.
You can say go with what I did and have 2.5 inches of lift with a clevis and no upper ball joint contact. You can run a 245-75X16 tire with this set up and no real problems, if you want to go higher and bigger tires then you need to go with the extra top plates, isolaters etc

I'm going to run the Goodyear Silent Armor 245/75R16. Because this is the wife's I'm going to error towards the conservative side when it comes to parts [and tire] selection.

So, for me it sounds like struts, shocks, and springs. Any additional small parts come to mind?

Now I need go look (search) for this clevis/ball joint issue you mention Tom. Told you I was a newbie. <grin>

if this will run 245 75's wiht nothing more than beating down a pinch weld, this is the set-up for me. i couldnt get the link to the struts to work.

yes you should be good depending on tire choice, some are a little wider than others but overall you will be OK, for the struts just go to Boulderbars.com and look under the Liberty section, if you have questions just call them, they are great to talk to and very helpful

When I lifted my 04 libby,I did the Rusty's 2.5" lift. It installed in just about 4 hours with no problems and rides great. It was the first lift I have ever done on a IFS vehical and it was easy. Absolutly no complaints, and I paid about $ 520 including shipping to WI. :D

Rustys = good
OME = great
OME setup is made for the vehicle, for example Rustys offers only one spring rate with their kit, which is 310 lb. Ome offers 3 spring rates from stock up to 400 lb. depending on your need and ride choice. PLUS you can buy the OMEs just about the same price or less than other kits. Everyone should check out ARBs website and see what goes into the testing and mfg. of the OME springs and shocks. Impressive at what they do.
