Any thoughts?
It seems I may have a bad connection, but I dont even know what to check.

Probably ought to pull the box out and do the circuit tests that others have mentioned here.

Speaking of which, what effect does having the power resistor hooked up have on the tests? Are the really critical tests even possible with it hooked up?

If you are bench testing the box, you may have to pull the resistor because the bench supply may not be able to supply the voltage with the resistor in circuit. On the vehicle it presents no problem except it will get hot.

GMCTD "might try connecting that wire to C2-17 Yel\DkBlu stripe in the ECM connector "

So...... the C2-17 Yel\DkBlu stripe in the ECM connector connects to the TC1-41 Yel\DkBlu stripe ?
That is to say, the Yel\DkBlu goes between the ECM and the TCM ?

I was under the unwarranted assumption that the TC1-41 Yel\DkBlu went to on down to the transmission. Not true?

I was thinking of tapping off near the tranny connector since it is closer to where I want to put the SERG box (under the dash). I found a Yel\DkBlu in the harness coming of the tranny and it would be easy to splice there. Now I am worried that this is not the same Yel\DkBlu TC-41.

However, it would be great if the C2-17 Yel\DkBlu would work, thereby having all of the splices happening in the cable tray box behind/next to the fuel filter. Any comments?

TCM uses T41 to tell ECM the trans is in Park\Neutral and not one of the drive ranges - it is used in the SEGR as permissive to enable the FCV at shutdown - T41 connects from TCM C1-41 to ECM C2-17, Yel\DkBlu stripe

This is interesting..... I would have guessed that the two modules would communicate via the BUS, not through hardwired connections? I guess some "permissive" siginals are too important to trust to software?

Thanks for the guidance oonce again, GMCTD

T41 and several others are just status signals, seldom changing, thus not requiring instant updating, like MAF, or Rail Pressure, or APP - the CAN bus is really ate up with vital traffic, so much so that, for example, the ScanguageII cannot always get response - sorta like you trying to speak to someone at some instution about your account

See

for some pictures of my SEGR install in progress.

The good news... all the splicing is done at one location (no need to go over to the Tranny TCM since T41 is available in the C2, C1 harness).

Very professional, Bill - and much more waterproof than behind the headlite

Did you punch that firewall hole, or is it the feed for a throttle cable?

Thanks to those who made suggestions about helping me figure out why mine went limp.

Turns out I had the 10 ohm resistor a little to close to the side and that shorted the system out blowing the fuse.
Of course, I didnt check the fuse until I had checked and rechecked every single connection in the box and at the wire loom.

Anyway - This should serve as a good notice.
Make sure your fuse connector is in an accesible spot and carry a spare fuse.
If you are out of town and that fuse blows you will be in limp mode.

I mounted mine under the dash on the left side of the steering colum.
I used the factory supplied firewall access plug to run the wires and made all nine connections at the ECM wire loom.
If you look very hard you can see a small section of my black plastic wire conduit running from that plug into the ECM wire loom.
Otherwise the whole project is invisible.

Thanks again to those that took the time to fab the board and post wire info.

The firewall hole was already there with a nice rubber cap. It was easy to punch a hole in the rubber cap and feed the wires thru !

If you built the bypass plug all you have to do is to install it if problem arrived. EGR will come in as factory setting and there will be no issue with the CRD.

Thanks again Tim and Dennis.

The SEGR is in and works like a charm.

SEGR box is velcroed to the Aluminium foot pedal bracket.
5 ft of wiring allows servicing the SEGR on your lap.
see http://picasaweb.google.com/bill.barg/J ... 3886395394
After 15 minutes of use, heat sink is slightly warm. When the box is in your hand with the lid open, you can hear the relay opening and closing with tranny shift out of park.

The scangauge "manifold air inlet temperature" confirms that the EGR is shut with only a 30 F temperature difference to ambient (instead of 70 or 80 F difference). The manifold air pressure when idle is 13.6 psi which indicates atmospheric pressure up here at 2500 ft. When the EGR is working, the pressure is lower by 0.3 psi.

I am happy with the results.

Bill

I still have 8 assemblies outstanding that I have not been able to complete as of yet. I am leaving town for the weekend and I will complete them next week. I apologize to those that have not got their kits yets, I will do my best to get them out to you. I appreciate all the patience that has been shown to date on this.

Got my kit..Looks great! Thanks guys!!!I put a hole in the box near the plug and stuck the fuse holder through it so the fuse protrudes to the outside. ..easier to check or change the fuse..I'd post a pic if I knew how to!!! It seems that I remember someone wiring the ORM so it plugs in to the harness instead of cutting into the harness. I'm wondering if anyone has actually done it and if there are any instructions for such???

Thanks,
Dean

Hi, Dean. You're right that several of us have looked to source adapters and such and it all comes down to that fact that it's really expensive and in the end, looks even less stock than splicing into a few wires and covering it with loom. Most everyone has simply gone the latter. It's trivial to undo later if you wanted to do so.

Dan

Happy to report another successful install... 3 hours or so this afternoon hooking mine up. Big thanks to Turbo Tim, Loco, and UFO for making this possible!

Biggest challenge for me was the weather... took advantage of a sunny Sunday here in Portland, but the temps were in the 30's. Hard to work on the splices with either gloves or numb fingers.

Anyway, few comments that might be helpful for others. I started with about 6' of wiring for my connections, and ran it through the plug in the firewall just above the throttle peddle (had already used it once for running my Edge module control switch.) 6' turned out to be way too much... 4 or 4 1/2 is plenty.

Taking the cover off of C2 was a bit of a hassle. I was scared of breaking it. Finally got it off with a very small flat tip screwdriver, just worming it around under the rear clip gently until it popped off.

The idea of using telephone splicing clips for making the splices off C1 was very helpful. One thing to note, however, you do need to strip back a good bit of insulation to take advantage of them (particularly if using 22 gauge wire to run to the SEGR box, as I did). I used regular blue plastic tapping clips for the big wires on C2. I know someone here thought that they would not work, but so far so good. I wanted a sturdy install without soldering.

I skipped opening up the TCM loom, and tapped into the wire on C2 instead.

Getting the C2 clip back into the ECU box was the biggest challenge of the install. Huge pain in the booty. Took me a good 30 minutes of worming it around, twisting on the wire loom, shoving the loom back, etc... to finally get a combo that would work. This might be easier if you entirely remove the battery.

Other big hassle was getting the rubber plug back into the hole through the firewall. Funny how it is always the stupid little things that eat up so much time.

Took the Jeep for a test drive, everything works great, and the check engine light is gone!

Well - you're not supposed to be up this late on a weekday  , and the pic url suddenly went into maintenance mode, so no pics - I'm shutdown till they're finished :x - I was hoping to have the initial post pic'ed and edited for content B4 everyone got up, later this a.m.

But, yeah - it pics most everything but the actual cut\crimp\solder\heatshrink operation, and that's simple wiring technique
