Build date April 05, bought May 10, '05. 9,500 miles so far. Possible EGR problem. Been going to "low grade" dealer where I bought it, they can't find anything wrong. Taking it to a "five star" Jeep dealership today for a second opinion and diagnosis. I'll report back what they say tomorrow. :?

So I'm going to order a Pro-vent and install it on my CRD. I was reading the brochure and it mentions an adjustable pressure regulator for closed systems. How should I set this?

10,200 mi. CEL light came on. I checked codes and got EGR numbers. Called dealer, he agreed with codes, but said that they could not order new valve until they verified. Went in, guess what-EGR was bad. THey also did a reflash (required by Jeep before ordering valve). EGR still bad, part ordered. Got call today (one week later), part is in, will have it fixed next week.

Tech told me all CRD sold at dealeship (10 of them) have had EGR problem (mine was last) and that '06 had "updated" EGR valve installed.

Got my codes at about 6000 miles, replaced a few days ago. Runs better now than it ever did before, less turbo lag. Looking at the system I can't see where the Pro Vent will help the EGR, but it sure will help the turbo and intercooler. The Provent is nothing new, been around a while and it can't void your warranty. Hasn't on any other diesel engine it's used on as it's only attached to your emission system and doesn't modify it's operation. Merely removes the oil from the vent line. Remember they have to prove it hurt the engine, they can't just say it did and void your warranty.

All,

Went to install my Provent this wkend and decided I'd get a second opinion before I started breaking stuff. I should probably get a shop manual for the Libby but haven't had a chance - figure you all can help me out. Please take a look at these pictures and let me know if I'm looking at splitting the correct hose.

Thanks!

EGR caused MIL light at 8088 miles. EGR and 2 glow plugs replaced, ECM flashed with TSB 18-018-05. Runs better than ever now. Build date March 1, 2005.

I didn't split any hoses, I replaced them with hoses the correct length when I had the Pro Vent mounted. Anytime you can keep from piecing things together on a vehicle your way ahead maintence and reliabilitywise. Went to an industrial hose and bearing company and they looked at the setup, took some measurements and opened up the catalog. Five minutes later I was out the door with preformed hoses that they pulled off the shelf that belonged on some other application, but with a little trimming on one end fit like a glove. Looks like it was designed to be there. You are looking at the right hose though.

All,

So I finished my Pro-vent install this morning. I have to say that this is the most asinine system I've ever seen. The CCV and turbo output lines were wet w/ oil inside. And this crap is headed into the intercooler? No wonder the thing gunks up over time! Wouldn't it make more sense to run the CCV line into the intake post intercooler? Less small orfices to get stuck in.

Anyway, even though I'm moving towards running B100 I'm still glad I installed the Pro-vent. I was able to find a 1"->3/4" copper plumbing fitting to step down from the pro-vent to the CCV line size. I also just used heater hose for the connections. The guy at NAPA said that the fueld vapor could eat through heater hose and that I should use fuel line. But of course they didn't have any 3/4" fuel line and I didn't know where I could get some locally (If I was back in Oklahoma I'd just swing by the Caterpillar dealer, surely they have fuel line that large) so I just used the heater hose. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Actually, no. The air pressure in the intake tract is too high, and would end up pressurizing the crankcase. The CCV has to be routed pre-turbo.

I got mine from this guy:

http://airnowsupply.com/tdi/index.htm $130

When I talked to him on the phone he said the manufacturer was planning on building a smaller version (w/ 1" ports on it, this thing is obviously designed for semi's) but wasn't sure when. From the retailer's perspective, he liked the idea of the smaller one as he'll be able to sell more filters. He told me he wouldn't see me for 5 years w/ the large model. Though it is a tight fit in the engine compartment.

I can take pics of my install if anyone's interested.

When I contacted Provent mfg almost 2 years ago they were talking about making a small CCV filter for small auto applacation and it hasn't happened yet and probably won't because the only market is VW and D/C few diesels in the US. The 200 was designed for use on large PU truck diesel engines. I did design and marketed a successdul CCV for the VW diesels through a local machine shop http://www.stancomachine.com/ I'm not sure if they are still making these for the VW's because the orginal owner sold out (friend & neighbor) and I have had no further contact with the new owner.

Now when will we see these pictures you promiced?

Ok, so here's my install. This was done after 2 days of frustration at my inability to find 1"ID fuel or heater hose that would fit onto the ProVent so no comments about my redneck methods (I grew up in Oklahoma so come by it honestly) :P

Parts list:
1"ID to 3/4" ID copper plumbing fitting
3/4" ID heater hose
1/2" ID clear vinyl tubing (for drain)
1/2" barb and cap fitting
5 hose clamps

Everything came from the plumbing aisle at Home Depot.

See here for pics:
http://www.one-ring.net/jeep/gallery/vi ... nt-install

1)The day before, glue the reduction fittings to the ProVent. Just goop up plenty of gasket maker around the ProVent fittings, press on the copper fitting and let dry overnight.

2)Remove the plastic sound housing from the top of the engine
-unscrew oil filler cap
-remove cover - it's just press-fit w/ rubber grommets.

3)Remove the airbox
-unplug the sensor wires from airbox top - there are 2
-remove top
-remove air filter
-remove airbox bottom (it's just press-fit w/ rubber grommets)

I removed the hose from the Turbo to the Intercooler to give myself more room - not sure if I needed to do this now. There was oil in this large line.

4)Remove existing CCV line. See the pics for the line to remove. the CCV end is easy, the turbo end was a PITA. Since I knew I was replacing it I just cut it off (slit from the end and it'll slide right off). There was oil in this line also. No wonder the intecoolers gunk up on these things.

5)Cut and install drain tube on ProVent - I used 16"

6)Cut and install heater hose onto ProVent (I ended up w/ 19" for the top [input] hose and 16" for the bottom [output]).

7)Install ProVent. It's a tight fit but it'll drop in. I put a tie-wrap (zip-tie) around the ProVent and the vacuum thing in front of it. But it hasn't moved in a couple hundred miles.

8)Reinstall the airbox - getting the top back on sucks but it'll go.

That's it. I'm watching the glued fittings but so far it all looks good, no oil anywhere.

These were not effected by cold as I shipped them into the Great White North of Canada. STANCO Machine

But it seems a lot more difficult/messy to clean. W/ the ProVent you just open the drain hose when you're doing an oil change and it dumps right into your drain pan. That other one looks like you'd open it up and pour oily goo all over the manifold?

Wrong, it drains back into the valve cover like the OEM model does. I does open up at the top to service the filter that was washable and only cost a dolllar or could be made from material found at any Home Depot or like store.
