There is really no reason to change the whole exhaust from the cat back, get a muffler that is 2.5 inlet / outlet cut out the step down in front of the original muffler and you are good to go. from the muffler back its mandrel bent 2.5 inch so why change it out to the same thing?
I just agreed with you jcphoto20!

Already did the muffler swap. That was the first thing to happen after I bought the KJ. As I expected performance and mileage did jump up a little. Afer that was the K&N FIPK II which helped a little with throttle response. I just like to gather opinions and facts about all the different mods out there. I have to say, however, that it is amazing how certain mods will work for some but not others.

I know this sounds weird, but almost to the day that the gas prices spiked at $3/gallon, my mileage dropped about 2mpg. I was getting almost 21mpg until the price hike - Now I can't get above 17.5 and it really does fluctuate with the price. The higher the price, the lousier my mpg.

Me too, Last tank, 270 miles, prior tank, 300+.

Diesel, how's it goin' man. Haven't got the Aeroturbine on yet if U can believe it! Shop's been givin' me the run around but hopefully later this week. Will post a few days after install & let all know what i think.

Not tryin' 2 hijack this link but always want to help when can. That being said may i strongly recommend the $4 gutter mod for anyone running a CAI. Got this tip from the 2x area and decided to try it out (link below). Just go to local hardware store, buy one flexible plastic gutter elbow and run it from behind the front grille to your CAI. EASY mod, VERY inexpensive and actually DOES increase amount of cold air going into system. U know what that means . .. . . cold air = more power/better mileage. Personally, as with most minor HP gains the power difference will barely be felt. i have definately noticed improved mileage though (no specs as no scan gauge). For $4 bucks give it a try. Don't like it, pull the thing out! Here's the link.

where would one find an aeroturbine catback system for our KJs

I contacted the company. Below is the reply. It is a LOT smaller = good for off road clearence.

Terry,

Thank you for your interest in our products. The muffler we recommend
for your '05 Jeep Liberty V6 would be our Turbine 2525. It has a 2.5"
inlet/outlet, 20" overall length, and a 6" diameter body. If you have any
further questions, feel free to contact us.

Thanks,

Excellent link Mr. Jeeper. You should post this on the “Does the KJ need more air?” thread that I started a few days ago. I was at Lowe’s on Sunday and considered buying the 4” Shop Vac replacement hose. I also looked at the PVC Pipes and fittings and came across the downspout in the process. All these items are being used on other KJ’s according to the thread link you posted. I found a 4” Shop Vac adaptor nozzle that was long and narrow and would have acted as a scoop. Unfortunately the adapter was a little too wide to fit. I want to run some type of tubing from the grill to the air box in the most direct route with little twists and bends. The most difficult modification will be cutting a hole into the odd shaped and angled factory air box. It can be done, but will have to be a intelligent (permanent) design before I go hacking into the box. Speaking of air box, how does it come out?

I talked to a few people that ran them before buying a 2525. We installed it today on my 04 liberty. After talking to Aero, I was confident that the non resonated version would sit well with me. The idle sound when the motor is warm is GREAT, personally like it much more than the flowmaster 50's I've heard. However, I do have a 1500 rpm drone, not sure whether I will keep it or go for the XL. Once warm the muffler acts much better, when the motor is cold it is VERY loud, for a Jeep with a muffler. Overall I do like it, my friends and even the girlfriend like it too other than a few small rpm ranges. It seems like it's going to be loudest running 30 and 55-58, or any speed range running near 1500. I'm kind of curious how other mufflers sound at the speed ranges.

No Mileage info yet, just put it on. This is one of the biggest reasons for the install and I want to run it to decide.

No clearance issues. Muffler looks great, it solid, but growls at even the slightest acceleration near the 30 range.

Dave

The Muffler in nearly every application that I can think of is bad news from the factory. The EPA wants you to burn up as much exhaust gas as possible in the muffler before releasing it into the air. By taking it off, you are freeing up all that bogged down exhaust that is trying to escape in a stuffed baffled muffler that is highly restricted.

not hijacking, but want to understand better. through reading alot on here, I was under the impression the factory mufflers are NOT baffled and are a straight through shot. One forum member had a pic where he took his stock muffler off and he could see right through the muffler just like a magnaflow. I know the Flowmasters are baffled and some have 3 chambers...the stocker is a single chamber and you can see through it from front to back if you hold it at an angle to make up for the offset....is this true or am I missing something? I too am looking into a different muffler and cannot even come close to deciding...many forum members say the stocker is about as good as it gets for the KJ, and changing to anything else is purley for sound affect. I wish I knew more....you guys are getting me there tho and I appreciate all these threads and advice.

Just so we know... Stock muffler is not a straight shot, holding a flash light to one end, you cannot see it through the other.

I'm learning how to drive with it, what speeds don't drone... + I've had a good handful of ppl wanting to know what she sounds like when you get on it. I had one older guy i know say it sounded like a tuner, but everybody else thinks it's great. I will say it's not a V8 and will never be.... (except for the couple guys here dreaming up the 4.7) but i don't hear the rice of it.

I had one of my buddy's thats a chevy nut, typically would take any chance to bad mouth any non chevy but he just smirked and asked what it is and how much. He has a flowmaster 40 on his 4.3.

Should you reset computer to get the most out of it? mileage/ power wise

Dave

This is the outside sound, we're working on the in cabin drone. Going to be attempting to fix it or will be sending it back for the XL.

Nice Dave, very nice! You should have heard my Cummins when I took the CAT off. I put the CAT back on for several reasons. Number 1, the CAT is LEGAL, Number 2, It was too loud with the CAT off. My Cummins sounds really good with the AREO turbine. I have the resonator on my Cummins. I’m going to go with the resonator for the KJ as well. Let us know if you note any fuel gains. I’ve heard some people report a solid 1.5 mpg improvement for the KJ. And of course where there is improvement there is freed up horsepower. Thanks for the sound clips!

On a pre-cat CTD, all you need is some straight pipe grafted in after you toss the muffler in the trash and you are good-to-go.

Here's my PM to someone who asked me about the Aeroturbine some time ago. Hope this helps!

"Love the Aero Turbine. It's loud but not unruly. Mikey likey! IMO it has a great exhaust note, full and deep in the lower RPM's. Shouts pretty loud when getting on it but still a good note, not raspy like many aftermarket exhausts i've heard. It's a thing of beauty too; polished stainless and solid as a rock. Thump a regular muffler and that's what you get . . . a "thump". Thump this thing and you get a solid "TING" (if you get one, definitely take a look at it before install).
Upon hearing it most think it's a Flowmaster 40 (another great exhaust) and are stunned to find it's an Aeroturbine.

As for performance benefits i cannot give quantifiable stats. i can tell you that from the time of install i've been stopping at the pump less/getting more out of a tank.

My one concern was that, because it's round rather than oval shape, it protrudes lower by a couple of inches. i like to offroad and was worried about damaging or ripping it right off. Having been to Badlands ORV now twice since the install i can say it is not an issue (i am Frankenlifted however). Bumped it a couple times where i thought "yep, definitely dented it that time!" and then upon inspection found only minor cosmetic scratches. Again, the thing's a rock!

That's about all i can tell ya'. Don't know what the XL sounds like on a Libby but mine, being an offroad project rather than Caddy cruiser, i wouldn't trade it. If you get one let me know what you think.

Oh, one more thing. When i surfed the Aeroturbine site i think the one i have installed listed for $190. When i found a local distributor to install it it ended up being $140 installed!?!?! Of course i didn't say anything, just pay the man & leave. It may be that purchasing through a distributor is cheaper though and at $140 installed well. . . . . you could pay more for a cheap POS at Meineke. Good Luck!"
