Does anybody have a copy of the F31 recall they can post here online so I can print it out and take to the dealer. My CRD don't communicate with generic code readers and the F31 recall is supposed to fix that. My CRD was build the same month of the programming problem but somehow fell through the cracks. Thanks in advance.

Do a search on "Emissions Recall F31". It looks like someone already posted the jist of the recall.
Also, FYI, unless you have had the F37 done, I think F31 is were jeep started changing the shift
points for 4th and 5th gear. My 4th and 5th gear shift points changed to 53 and 64 before F37
ever hit the dealers and I believe it was F31 that did it. I've hated those shift points ever since.

DAIMLER/
CHRYSLER
F31 2758 V 8/15/2006
* Reported to
EPA on
2/15/2007
2006 Jeep Liberty 6CRXT02.82RX The OBD communications protocol supported by the TCM on
some 2006 model year Jeep Liberty vehicles equipped with 2.8L
diesel engines is not consistent with the protocol supported with
the ECM. Some generic scan tools may be able to communicate
with either module but not the other.
Remedy: Daimler Chrysler will conduct a voluntary emissions
recall (F31) to reflash the TCM of the affected population with the
proper OBD communications protocol

One or two updates prior to the F31 scrambled the OBDII codes and made there reading limited to the MOPAR readers. The F31 put them back to normal.

I found receipt that I have one of them updates and will show to dealer Wednesday. I'm telling them to do the F31 only and reprogram the tire sizes for wrong speedo reading and that's it. I would like to someday to use scangauge II also.

If you don't want the F37 you many be outta luck. The F37 followed closely on the heels of the F31 and as I recall those that did not get the F31 soon enough got the F37 instead which included the down tune along with the OBDII fix.

OK I finally got on to AllData and check both the F31 and F37. By reading them, I don't see how they relate to one another.

There is currently no way to undo the F37 flash.

I will do only the F31 and nothing else. I will tell them, no no no f37, do f31 or no flash at all. Maybe it would be better to pay $210 for a new TCM and replace it and see how it runs. Oh gosh I don't want them (the dealer) touching my Jeep. Is a new TCM plug and play??

Man....I didn't mean to totally mess you up!

Here is my understanding, most of the software/firmware upgrades don't much stand alone. While the F31 restored standard OBDII code capabilities it was an update to an earlier version that improved shift points (If I recall correctly). When the F37 came out it was a mish mash of stuff including the new TC and possibly the pump, plus programing of the ECM and the TCM. But those last two are the current software versions and they include all the improvements prior to the F37 including the F31 changes (At the time some suggested the F31 changes to the shift points were the parts of the F37 that were actually destroying performance but after I had the F31 done I didn't see much change). Many never had the F31 because they hop skipped directly to the F37.

I may be wrong here, I am old enough that yesterday's reality does not always come through to today. I would go to a really good dealer and sit down with them and figure it out before I made the leap if I were adament against the F37.

Since the dealer I purchase my Jeep from is out of business I had to get the flash at another stealer. I took it into Brandywine Chrysler Jeep for todays appointment and the dialog went like this.

me: I'm here for my appointment to have the TCM flashed with the F31 recall.
SW: I checked and there is no recall on your vehicle.
me: I have a receipt to show that an outdated flash has cause problem that this recall corrects therefore it need the flash.
SW: But that is a recall and there is no recall on your vehicle.
me: But in order to correct the problem created by the outdated flash it must be flashed again with the right software. (restraining myself from choking him).
SW: Now you are confusing me?

This goes back and forth a few times until he agrees to hook up the scanner and see if the update is available. It is sent in the garage and about an hour later I'm told it's done.

SW: There was an update for the TCM and it is done.
me: Was it the F31 that I brought it here for?
SW: It was the only update that was available for your vehicle, now you have the latest and the greatest (I guess at that moment he expected me to dance). Your bill will be at the cashier.
me: Doesn't the scanner check what software needs updating and download what it needs??
SW: I don't know, the mechanics have to go to school and learn how to use the scanner.
me: (to myself) Do'h I get to pay for a recall, they play dumb to rip me off. Do'h again!

On the drive home I stopped first chance and check if the OBDII fix was done with the flash. The two readers I have both works fine now. I plugged my chip back in and re-ORM-ed it. The transmission is shifting at the same speed but a little sloppy because it has to relearn. I have the cheap code reader plugged in all the time now and now reset the CEL automatically on a restart.

I'm going to try to send a copy of the bill and emission recall papers to Chrysler and ask them why I had to pay for a recall.

If they did the right program they were required to re-sticker it someplace (Under hood, on the ECM/TCM) becuase this recall was government mandated not just a Chrysler "customer satisfaction" issue. That is the same reason that you should not have had to pay for it.

This recall is from the EPA, see the link below. If the vehicle can not be check for codes at state inspection lanes then the vehicle fails inspection. EPA required the states to check for codes and emission from the tail pipe.
