Hi all,

As I'm preparing to order a Frankenlift for my '06 Renegade, I read this post by daspes who wrote that his ESP begun to act "funny" after he Frankenlifted his KJ and put on bigger wheels (265/75).

Has any one had any similar experience?

Btw, daspes also points to a link on the AEV site, for an inline module that corrects their ESP problems on WKs & XKs with 4'' lifts (it wouldn't fit a KJ though...)

Perhaps anyone knows for something similar for the KJs (if needed)?

X.

I don't have a Frankenlift but i do have a lift on my rig and have had no ESP issues whatsoever. Maybe the KJ gets altitude sickness when it senses it's getting close to 3" or higher...LOL

To clarify my experiences...
Stock - Never saw it come on once.
Frankenlift - Still no issues
245/75's on Moabs - Oh Yeah.
pushed up to 265/75 - Same thing as with the 245's. New shoes have only been on for a day and a half, so not sure if it's better or worse yet.

The ony time my ESP comes on now is when I'm on a fairly tight corner at 25+. For me and my driving (100 mile daily commute all highway with southern california traffic...) I only see it when I'm doing the on and offramps, the loop around style. Then with out fail, unless I remember to "disable" it, the ESP will cut my throttle and start hitting the brakes on the wheels one at a time. I swear, it feels hairy, probably not as bad as it makes you feel. Heart skips a beat, pucker factor goes up. Hate it.

I think more than the lift, it may be the rotational mass/weight of the larger tires, and their momentum going through the turns.

Not sure if anyone knows or not, is this a completely electronic system, or is it tied to a syncro, widget, gadget, etc...? If it is entirely electronic, it can be fixed, not by me mind you, but by someone. I'm wondering if a reflash with the new tire size may 'help' the problem, may be some other 06-07 lifted, big tire owners will chime in with their experiences...

@daspes: I guess you mean changing that "rev per mile" setting...
It might be pretty interesting to find out if it affects operation of the vehicle to such a great extend!

It does matter, The ESP between manual and autos is different. Did you happen have the dealer reflash your ECU for the new tire size?

One more thing that I forgot earlier:
If it's a simple reflash of the ECU thing, in order to change the "revs per mile" setting, why did AEV have to come up with an inline module to correct a (possibly) similiar problem on the WKs/XKs ?

I had issues after putting the Daystar lift on with the Moabs, but they went away after the second alignment. The first place didn't have experience with lifted rigs, the second did. Going around corners at speed (IE clover leaf type on ramps) the esp would kick in and start controlling the throttle. After the second alignment, this all went away.

Since the ECU, PCM or what ever controls the speedo and tell the kj what to do with the tires it was programed with, shouldn't doing a PCM change on the tire size work accross the board in the kj's computer. Kind of basic info it has to make decissions from, wouldn't ya think?

You give me hope, the KJ is supposed to go in for its's alignment tomorrow morning.

Woody, thats what I was thinking, but ZooL brought up a good point on why it toook a module from AEV to correct the problem on WK's and XK's. Dunno, When they look at my rear swing gate next week, I'll ask the dealer to reflash the ECU.

OME lift on 2006 CRD with 235/75/16s...no real issues. The only time I have had the ESP really show up is when hypermiling...doing high G Force turns to carry momentum. I have had it touch the brakes for me. I raced cars for mazda so it is funny to have a "car" adjust my line...but it is a good thing if anyone other than myself is driving...I know it works.

I have been trying to get the ESP to go off while in Full Time 4wd , but have not managed (and this with the diesel torque)
In 2wd it is comes on with only a little surplus throttle in turns, for me.

Well, the good news for me is that after my 2nd alignment today (man they screwed up the first one....) it didn't hit once on my trek home, even though it has been pouring rain her in SoCal all day. Hope that fixed it.
