closer would be nice... but its really not that big of a deal. people tow cars around all the time, so it shouldnt be a problem. plus, you have the floor jack and jack stands and all the tools and schtuff there already.

not sure how long Jon wants to wait to get his baby back on the road. I can do either Saturday or Sunday next week I think ...well right now till the wife comes home this weekend for a month  Can also do the following weekend one day I am pretty sure if Mitch and rayman975 wants to come up/over. with enough of us working on it we should be able to do it in pretty good time,

What all special tools will we need? trying to think here after being up 17 hours ...brain dead

Yep you are right , have to find one of those, maybe L.O.S.T Ohio should set up a tool fund as well! I think I should have everything almost everything else we need if we do it here.

OH and I got a call from a junk yard whoops salvage yard 2 miles from the house this morning, they have a 4.10 front diff for 500 complete with 38000 miles, wonder if its worth it to change everything over? Wonder if the wife would like that under the tree for Christmas?

You should buy that!!! Even if you dont have the money to do the rear right now, you could stash it in the garage for a rainy day! :D

I had to rent a 3 prong hub puller to get the hub off the axle after I took off the axle nut. And a ball joint puller for the tie rod and the lower ball joint. also, reconnect the drive shaft before you tighten the housing bolts down.

A 1 7/16 socket will also work on the axle nut. I had to borrow that from someone, as my sockets only go to 1 1/8.

It's been over 2 yrs. already so I'm a little vauge in remembering.

I'm going to a concert in Cleveland Saturday night. I need to be there around 7pm. So, if everyone thinks we can get it done for me to make the drive home (2-2.5hrs), clean up and get back up to cleveland (1.5hrs) (total 3.5-4hrs) then we can do it saturday. I think if we get started, we could swing it. Otherwise, I'm up for Sunday too! :D

i'm sorry for all the confusion on this.... i've been informed by "the boss" that my soon-to-be sister in-law's college graduation is sunday. there's no way i can miss that. so, i found someone that will take my concert ticket so we can do the wrenching on saturday. so, back to original plan of saturday! :D once again, sorry for confusion...
oh, and does anyone know some more info about that 35mm socket that i need? drive size? deep well or normal?

on a side note, i picked up all the parts today. the carrier looks pretty good. i didnt take of the cover, but i peaked inside and it seems fine. i turned it and it turns pretty easy. i stuck my nose in there and it smells like normal old gear oil, not burnt crappy oil. so, all in all, without really knowing what to look for. it looks good. below are some pics. check out the one of me holding the chunk of the old housing up in front of the new one. you can clearly see that the crack starts right on the seam where the two halves are put together. bad joint?

I think we are on for Saturday. Too bad that takes Mitch and Ray out of the picture, but, what can ya do... You can just sit in the easy chair with the doors open and yell instructions to me. Until theres a bolt I cant break of course, which will happen in, ya know, the first 5 minutes...
